Comfort saddle suggestions

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with comfort saddles for touring and everyday use? All roads seem to lead to Brooks B17 and the like on forums I've read, but I'm hoping I won't have to spend 1/2 of my bike cost again for the luxury!

Are there any imitations or alternatives out there?

    Thanks!

Have you gone on long distances yourself using this saddle Lumen? I just had a look at it and it seems quite narrow, but I'm no expert! Whats your opinion?

Thanks for the replies btw :)

Of all the cheap saddles I've used it was the least hateful, and lots of other people report positive experiences with the Spoon.

I normally use narrow racing saddles (Specialized Toupe 130mm or 143mm) and compared to those the Spoon is perhaps more suitable for relaxed cycling.

Yeah, I used one last year for a 3 day 250+miles spin or something. It was fine.

30euros on wiggle.co.uk, its probably worth a try at the very least, seeing as Brooks etc are 100ish. I'll wait a while to consider any other potential suggestions and go for it if nothing else pops up!

    Cheers :)

Pm me if you would would like to buy this

    http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/madison-flux-mtb-mens-saddle-prod25666/

I have it over a year, so comfy I did a 24 hour on it without any problem.
It's shape us not unlike the spoon in so far as the riders weight is more on the two sit bones with little on the centre.
Everyone has different needs in a saddle but if you fancy it €20 and she is all yours. It is as new with only about 700 km on it only reason for sale is I don't love it and you are looking for similar.

The Selle Rolls is a much nicer saddle, IMO, and is comfortable on long distance trips. Ive done 1200 + km on a multi day with it - inc several days of 200+ km back to back. It looks good on most bikes and resists exposure to wet weather ( a disadvantage of the Brooks ). Its about 55 quid on wiggle, more for the one with titanium rails.

If t1mm is not interested i would consider buying it. What colour is the saddle?

    Sell Italia SLR Lightweight saddle.
    135g of ass comfy bliss.

I have done 3 4-day 700km trips on this saddle. I have done numerous 150-200k cycles on it.
Love it and would have no hestitation in recommending it.

Thanks again for the replies lads. I'm sure there are plenty of 100euro saddles that qualify as comfortable but they're simply out of my price range! Cheers all the same :)

Cheers thebouldwhacker, but if talkabout can get 20 euro to you quicker than I can, no hard feelings :) Thanks for the offer though! I think I'll save up a few euro and order some gear from wiggle!

Any selle italia saddle. I got a lightly used one on eBay and used it all of last year. Mighty so she is.

The only reason I changed was because I bought a new bike, which also came with a selle italia saddle. I love this one as well, a gel flow I think.

    This is worth investigating:

I have done 600km over 2 days and it was perfect. I have a brooks B17 as well, feels different but the Charge has never caused me discomfort or issues.

If your around south Dublin I could lend you the Charge Spoon for a few days to give it a test, different ass bones, different saddles for comfort, worth a try before you buy.

ooh, I have that on my bike (in black). It's not super resilient, after 4 years I had to patch it up, but it's comfy and doesn't sponge too much in the rain. I'd recommend it.

Saddles are a very personal thing, and chances are you end up trying more than one before finding something that works for you. Well worth jumping at bouldwhacker's offer and passing it on to the next person if its not for you. Better than lashing out more money on a new saddle that may not suit.

FWIW, I went through four saddles before ending up with the B17, I missed out on the charge spoon, which would be high on my list for cheaper alternative. SPA cycles are also now carrying a range of Brooks style leather saddles from £35. Could also be worth a punt.

Did it take long to break it in? I fitted mine on New Years Day and over 1,400kms later (56 hours in it) it's still not there.

Nope, pretty much comfortable from day one, and ultra comfortable now. If it's not comfy by now, I'd be looking at my set-up.

Thanks. Should I be loosening the nut underneath?

(It's uncomfortable for the first 20 minutes or so - feels like I'm sitting on a large pebble. It goes away then)

This is the most comfortable saddle I have ever used, a flexy sheet of carbon, no padding or anything. Each bottom to their own, saddle is a very personal thing to ask for opinions on comfort.

Saw the pic and thought 'how could you ride that thing, its upside down FFS!' then I noticed it was an Australian ad. My bad ;)

I've an older Brooks Flyer on my hybrid that felt similar, but that was after a years use. I ended up tightening by half a turn which did the trick.

If your saddle gets more comfortable after 20 mins, it is as likely that you're finding a more comfortable position on the saddle as the saddle deforming to your weight. Before messing about with the nut on the brooks, I'd try moving the saddle slightly forward or backward. The B17 is a wide saddle, and I find I move about on it quite a bit.
