what have you connected at the moment? where is this set up? what is the motherboard lying on? cpu cooler/heatsink installed ok?

/edit oh, rebuild using a recycled harddisk? could be purely software/os issues

power supply should be good enough imo

reckon the problem lies with the windows install - installed and configured for one set of hardware, and is now trying to boot up another. Sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.. gonna need a windows disk to check though unfort

quite old components mind you, so could be a hardware fault in there somewhere..?

    (presuming windows xp..?)

even just being able to borrow one, as you just need to boot from it and try windows repair. Dunno where you'd buy one tbh

/edit process Im talking about: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/138-how-to-repair-windows-xp/

Your best bet is to get a lend of a Windows installation disc preferably 7 don't bother with XP and do a clean install. Trying to swap out a preconfigured Windows HDD from one PC to another is just going to cause trouble.

Yes especially for a new build. Microsoft is stopping support for XP next year meaning no more security updates. :(

Why not sure? Might as well get the upgrade in while fixing it. You may be able to update and save the old files off of XP if that's an issue also.
