No sound when laptop connected to the TV

When I connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI cable, the sound comes from the laptop only and not the TV. I have to plug speakers into the laptop to hear it properly. What am I doing wrong? It's a Philips Smart TV and I've downloaded Philips Wifi Media Connect on the laptop but the connection keeps timing out. The only way to get uninterrupted viewing is via HDMI.

Check what the default audio device is on the laptop.

I was having this issue even with my HDMI output enabled. Updated drivers and restarted machine. Worked ok. Plugged out for a while and then plugged back in again and no sound.
Have to restart laptop with hdmi plugged in each time now, a bit annoying! :(
