    Hi guys,

I'm nearly in my late twenties and really want to go travelling before i'm too old. I'm strongly looking at going to Oz in a few months, hopefully. I feel like i'm overthinking it though, what to bring, where to go, where to stay, what to do with my stuff at home. Just looking for some good solid advice on what actually needs to be done and what I need to bring, what would you recommend seeing etc? Thanks guys.

whats the over thinking about - just do it. Is this a holiday or backpacking year out etc?

    Points to note:

OZ is expensive, take out 50 bucks from the atm and it's gone within hours!!

Sydney is good,(avoid bondi) - i'm sure your familiar with the famous sites already, i recommend taking a ferry over to manly, spend a day there and get the ferry back, nice trip on a sunny day :)
Have a few drinks down the rocks
Go to Bondi - look at it and go, is this it:eek: However do the bondi to coogee coast walk
Check out oxford steeet, part of its gay but the upper end is a nice area heading into Paddington.
Ruschcutters bay is good, in fact get a god damn guide book ha Obviously use the trains etc.

Brisbane: personally i thought it was a kip and legged it but i had a few good nights there in palce backpackers bar :)
Cairns: do the barrier reef, hang out in cairns for a few days, go up to cape tribulation, some cool beaches around carns such as trinity beach etc, damn hot though
Darwin: cool for a few days, maybe do a tour (4 days or so)down to ayres rock, see some real(unlike the daintree minnows) crocs along the way
    Melbourne: great city

Personally, i would go to south east asia and have a ball but each to there own, one things for sure, you'll have a great time, especially getting out of Ireland for a while, you do realise it is summer in OZ now right??

I spent a year over there. I flew into Perth, spent a few months living and working there. Bought a car for around $1,800 and drove/slept in the car around the whole country for 3 months.

    Highlights:

Karijni National Park (As a whole the West coast is way better/less packed with Tourists than the East Coast. I preferred it)

Whitsunday Islands - Go out on a boat around the Islands for the weekend. You meet a load of new people, can bring your own booze and its such a cool spot.

Melbourne: Best city over there imo. So much to do, always something happening. Full of people your age, lived there for months. You'll find a job there no problem. The Great Ocean Road is a great drive too, beautiful.

Cairns: Has the Great Barrier Reef & Cape Tribulation. Good for a few days visit.

Perth: If you want beaches, go here. Best beaches in the country.

I would seriously recommend picking up a car over there. Allows you to see what you want, when you want. Plus its handy in cities like Perth where u have to drive to get around really. I even sold mine for a profit when leaving.

well if you want to get some sun, obviously its kinda always sunny and warm but sydney can get in the low teens in winter etc, up north i guess its more or less always hot and then it gets extremely hot or as the aussies say "stinking hot". i was just saying if your going on holidays and not for the year, maybe do it in there summer time and our autumn/winter etc, either way, enjoy :)

agree with all this bar the whitsundays!! i didn't get to the west coast and i am raging as everybody says its far better as in not a tourist have which the east coast is!!
I thought whitehaven beach was amazing(Whitsundays), however the boat i went on, took us a day to get there and then we could only spend 2 hours on the actual whitsundays, i know its protected and all that but c'mon. Basically i ams saying, if your going, pay for a good decent boa trip, i went on a boat called habibi, avoid at all costs!! other people including this poster appear to have loved it and so i imagine they went on a different boat ha
