Looking at a 2011 1.2 tdi one of these, would anyone on here have any opinions or reviews on this, It seems to be very economical.

Personally I wouldn't, just don't like the idea of three cylinder engine which I think the diesel is also, test drove the 1.2 petrol and was put off by the engine noise, imagine the diesel is noisier and as far as I know there was an issue of water getting in through the doors on the 11 models

yep, highly recommend them, a good few high mile fabia's with the 3 cyl tdi units in them have been thru my hands, and no issues.

Lots of high milage 3cyl tdi polos in the uk too, so they can do the milage the same as any 4 cylinder unit. Very frugal too.

I'd buy one ...and it'll be a good seller in the future with the way things are.

Had one (estate version) as a replacement car for a week last month. Found it to be slow, noisy, and not as economical as you'd think.

Girlfriend has a 2010 1.4. Nice little car to drive. She's had no issues with it so far. Don't think they do the 1.4 anymore though after a quick look.

Sounds a bit like a tractor though!

Just didn't like the noise of it, didn't think I'd get used to how it sounded, thought the petrol one sounded whiney & decided I couldn't live with it compared to what I was driving at the time which was very quiet & I knew it would drive me mad & regret the purchase, that's all, just a personal thing, I'm sure the engines are grand, otherwise it's ok, just didn't suit me, think it's the same engine in some of the VW's

OP how many miles do you do to make it worth while? Remember diesels need to warm up to be efficient and the DPF will fail if you don't drive it far enough often enough.

A 1.2 TDI 3 cylinder ? no way, Christ what has the world come to in order to save a few mpg or save 100 euros a year in road tax ?

Seriously though a 1.2 TDI 3 cylinder diesel ?

For God's sake get the 1.6 TDI if you are going to get anything, there isn't that much of a difference in price.

The 1.6 TDI is about the only half decent engine in any Polo, their petrols are complete Sh**E and shouldn't be allowed on the road they are ridiculously under powered.

Jesus even my Prius can do 60-65 mpg and would have nearly twice the power of the 1.2 tdi in total and is twice the size of the polo and is automatic.

How about getting a 4 or 5 year old Prius and converting it to LPG? would be like a diesel that gets a real 94 mpg @81 C/ L in places.

A MK III Prius would cost on LPG the same as a real 100 mpg diesel.

    Now that's real economy driving ! ;)

EDIT yes I mixed it up with the POLO, I said I'd mention my mistake before some smart ass got their first. :-) Not much of a difference though

The 1.2 tdi is incredibly rough on tickover, but once moving its grand. Sounds like its gonna blow up when you're manoeuvring etc.

It wouldn't stop me recommending one though, you'll know straight off if the noise would put you off.

The Ibiza is a fine car, rented a 1.9 TDI with all the toys when they came out in 09ish. They look good in the right colour and spec. The other side of this is that in the wrong colour they look dreadful. Consider a polo too as they're the same thing just a more conventional look to them.

Also look at a yaris 1.4 D-4D 90. If you can find one, they're a hoot to drive, but smaller than the Ibiza.

These are the complete opposite to the engine in the Ibiza. They are so quiet you can barely hear them tickover. They are definatley one of the quietest most refined small diesels out there imo.

Yep, hard to believe they're out 10 years. Not suited to the corolla but just right for the yaris

Actually, did think at the time that they were pretty easy on the eye, they had a lovely fire engine red colour, silver was nice too but it was a little tight in the back for my needs. I was looking at the Ibiza ST, slightly bigger than the Ibiza & not a bad size boot either, it actually ticked a lot of box's for me, just not enough in the end

I agree, the body of the corolla is just too heavy and it feels a bit lifeless with this engine.
