A friend has moved into an apartment .He has two cables dangling in his wall .
He got a signal from one of the cables .He then turned off the tv .When the tv was turned on again ,no signal .Would a wall plate make a difference .

What channels did he get with that signal? Are any of the cables connected to a shared aerial?

Ask him to talk to the neighbours/management company regarding what TV services are available to the apartments.

It could be that the cabling within the apartment block could be acting as an aerial and picking up a weak/unreliable Saorview signal and a wallplate won't make a difference. He could try a cheap indoor aerial connected to the TV.

Shared aerial on the roof .The signal was good with 100% quality .I tried an

indoor aerial ,and the signal is iffy .The neighbours have`nt a clue , all sky

lovers .I`ll try the management company .Thx

Can you take photos of the cables etc?

    Is the TV saorview approved?

The cables may be old Sky cables and not connected to the aerial at all.

The sky cables are on the other wall .I connected them to a freesat box and working with no issues .

If indeed those are connected to a roof antenna, those are screw on f-type connectors. What cable did he connect to those to connect to the TV?
Maybe when undoing whatever cables he unscrewed slightly the f-type connector and a bit of the shielding wire is now in contact with the core/signal wire?

Strange use of full-stops btw OP :)

The mystery cables could just be intended as a 2nd satellite point, or pretty much anything coax. cables can be used for. Depends what is at the other end.

If you can't trace the cables, you'll have to ask the landlord or whoever knows about the distribution system in place.

It was fine when the tv was tuned in originally .

I presumed the cable on the left was from an old analogue aerial .

I will investigate further ,thx for all the help .

They are more than likely sat cables, especially since the phone line is beside them and there are two of them and they are f connectors. You could try an old sky box on them,or borrow the neighbours to confirm this.
you could also fit an ordinary aerial plug on them and do a retune on the tv to see what happens..
The management company (provided their fee's are paid) should advise alright on where the feed is from the aerial on the appartment roof.
Its unlikely that any appartment in the block would be without a feed from the aerial,if it has been there since the block was built.

Can you post a photo of what is on the roof?
