Company Relocating Within Ireland

    Hi all.

Company I work for ( large 400+ workers ) is in the phases of moving it's business from the south of the country to Dublin ( summer 2014 ).

Just wondering have I any rights at all?

Could my company move premises and just say take the job or leave it, or could you claim redundancy or get some other compensation?

If there is no compensation it doesn't seem fair at all.

Like if the director just said "we are moving premises to the Dublin next week" and leave you high and dry with no job, you may not even get dole as you left of your own accord. Would they have to give notice of a move or anything? is there any factor of the distance of the move.

I like my job and would be willing to move to Dublin, but of course would like a bit more money, as Dublin is alot more expensive.

Do I even have a job?

Could they just fire me, give me redundancy and hire some other guy to do my job for less money?

Can they legally fire me and hire someone else?

I am scared, as I have been working for the company nearly 10 years, work in accounts, not a highly skilled job, but I do have qualifications in that area, money is ok.

Any help and advice would be appreciated, as a few of colleagues are starting to get worried.

Redundancy due to distance and that's about it; depending on how they make the move some roles may be cut / changed but that's not tied with the move per say.

    have a look here: http://www.chambers.ie/preview.php?id=934

Long story short: it depends on your contract, but your boss can't just say "move or that's it", and you can't just say "I'm not going and I'm keeping my job". If the whole company is moving and you can't go (distance here seems to suggest that it wouldn't be reasonable for you to move), you get made redundant.

    Thanks lads.

Read the contract I signed when I started in 2004 and it doesn't say anything about relocating.

Company was bought by a huge American company in 2008 and their has been rumours since they took over about going to the capital and expanding into the UK market since the start, rumours came to truth just before christmas when they said a greenfield site had been bought and all going to plan the custom built facility should be up and running in by summer 2014.

So I should be offered redundancy or a job if my role isn't obsolete.

    Thanks for the link tbh.
