Good primary schools

We have a 4 month old and are looking to subscribe her to a good public primary school. We are currently living in an apartment in the city centre but are going to rent it and rent a house in an area with a good school. Neither of us are religious but we dont mind going to a religious school if its has a good acedemic reputation. We are first time parents so have a few questions
    1) when putting your child's name down for a school a few years in advance do you have to pay a deposit? If so how much?
    2) do you have to live in the catchment area at the time of subscribing or is it okay as long as you live there at the time they start?
    3) any recommendations if good primary schools in south Dublin.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It would be very unusual to have to put down a deposit for a place in a public national school

I think you are approaching the question from the wrong direction though - in my opinion, there is little to choose between national schools, unless you are looking for a particular ethos. It would be more usual to approach this from the opposite direction and think of what secondary school you would like your child to attend - once you establish this, there are usually a number of primary schools that would act as feeder schools into this school

There are Literally hundreds of good Primary schools in South Dublin (and North Dublin) you would need to narrow down the area you plan to live in to get a better idea.
