My central heating system is controlled by a bog standard timer and a thermostat on the boiler . Would you recommend a wireless thermostat or TRVs . If I were to install 2 wireless stats how does that work with the boiler and if I were to go down the road of TRVs should I put one on all the rads ?

TRVs will not turn off the boiler but a wireless stat will. Even better to fully zone the system with motorised valves in conjunction with the stats & go one further with a cylinder stat.

Thanks for the info shane0007 . Are motorised valves easy to get and are they expensive ? I was wondering how I could zone the house . macbog

It is best to get a plumber to have a look. If you fully zone the system, you will also need an auto bypass valve installed for safety, frost stat or pump over-run if fitted.
You could also get grant aid of €400 towards the works if you wish to go down that route.
Motorised valves cost about €70 each for decent ones. Just make sure boiler interlock is achieved.

I think I will , I have a good basic knowledge of plumbing but this is beyond me . If I were to use one wireless thermostat in the center of the house how well would that work ?

Some are good & some are sh1te. It depends on their frequency. Something like the Horstmann HRT4-ZW. They operate on frequency 868Hz. This is a pulse frequency so it will not pick up interference from other appliances on lower frequencies. Once the receiver is wired you can walk around to ensure best location.
