    Hi all!

I know there's a thread about this already but all the discussions are about optical express.

So basically I'm thinking of getting Laser eye surgery with Optilase. I'm giving them my answer next week. It's costing €3,100 for both eyes because my left eye is a nightmare between astimatism, and a lump on it (yes I have has both checked repeatedly over the years, all is well).

The optician there was brilliant and he explained to me in detail the surgery, aftercare, risks etc... I'm a medical student so I appreciated how detailed it was because in our course the mantra is "every surgery has it's risk, never forget".

BUT I was hoping people would tell me of their experiences like how the first week was? Did you have dry eye, soreness etc? Was the actual surgery as bad as you thought it would be? Did you have any complications?

    Thanks!

Have you had consultations elsewhere? Given the extra issues you have with your eyes, it would be a good idea to get alternative opinions before pressing ahead with surgery. In particular, I would think a non-high street opinion is called for.

I've just had my usual optician assess me (before I went to optilase) and she recommends Wavefont with intralase as do Optilase. I'm calling her tomorrow to see what she thinks of the surgeon they have. His CV is impressive but still, you only have two eyes...

have a look at my other posts - did this last year - very short sighted and astigmatsim - perfect....!

I got my mother to pick me up, as I thought I'd be coming home with a white cane.

you go in, get all gowned up and take your valium. Then you're called in. I couldn't feel much at all. Your eyes are propped open but I had no pain. The only thing slightly disconcerting was that I could smell the burning. In and out in 5 minutes. Came out high as a kite, brekkie with Mam in cafe and I was watching a film that evening!

I got Wavefront LASIK laser eye surgery with Optilase. The surgery itself was slightly uncomfortable but it didn't hurt. My vision was a bit blurry when the surgery was finished but I could see a massive improvement already. I left the clinic around 10 minutes later and I was in shock at how my vision had improved already. The anesthetic started to wear off and my eyes started stinging and streaming. I put in eye drops and went to sleep for a few hours and then went for dinner that night. It felt like a miracle that I could see without contacts or glasses! It definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I wish I had it done years ago.

I had Intralase/wavefront LASIK on Saturday with Optilase Dublin, the experience was very very similiar to the above account.
I was given a valium before the surgery, and was wiped out ten minutes after the surgery. Eyes were stinging but nurofen, drops and 3 hours sleep (this is the most important part it seems) sorted me out.

Next day my vision was greatly improved, very sensitive to light (I have been wearing shades since) and I have halos around bright lights. This is apparently going to take 1-2 weeks to reduce.

All in all, its 3 days since the surgery, no real pain, the surgery is bearable and my vision is greatly improved
