I know it's cost to change that matters but just looking for a rough idea what to expect.
10 VW Polo 1.6 TDI Highline with 45k on the clock.
These are not too common especially in the top spec .

Surely a bit more than that? Cost 21k 3 years ago so that would be a massive drop for a vw

That's depreciation for you!!! I paid €42k for a new VW in 2007 and sold it 3 and a half years later for €14k

Rule of thumb is cars loose 50% of their value in first three years .. Depending on their 'desirability'

A 2010 polo is a run of the mill small hatch and will loose a little more

It's worth at least €12k IMO.

    As a trade in?

The trade in price is a distorted figure that people incorrectly focus on, the important figure when trading in is how much it is costing you to change up to the other car.

I think a New car looses something like 15-20% when you buy and drive on once.

Think it's worth maybe 12995 or a little more as a sticker price, don't think you'd want it owing you 12k plus a service and house charge though

True but this one is a little more that a run of the mill spec, it's got the upgraded 90bhp engine and Highline spec(alloys etc)
It's worth at least €12k IMO.
That's around about what I was thinking.

EDIT: there's the same car but with DSG on donedeal with a sticker price of 14500

Certainly more than 8k. I wouldn't advertise for less than 12k unless you want rid of it today!

My point is that Garage A could offer €3k more for the Polo than Garage B but the newer car that Garage A is €4k more expensive than the one that Garage B has. So Garage B is €1k cheaper despite Garage A giving a higher trade in value.

If you mean 45000 km, I'd write a cheque for 10k, maybe more. I'd ask 12995 on my forecourt

Pm me if you want to sell it!

You know that, I know that, and the op said in the first post they know that. They gave the caveat, they just wanted a ball park, I honestly don't see what's wrong with that. Op said they know cost to change is the big one.

Keep in mind the possible discount for buying straight. Trading in would be less hassle and you won't be high and dry If the car arrives late.

Cost to change to a Golf comfortline TDI DSG was €14,800, that's almost €13k for the polo!
