I am intrested in doing a course like this one: http://thefitnessacademy.ie/

BUT the problem is I am unemployed after having only xmas work and ony come out with 100e a week BEFORE bills and rent and the course is 1950e...

I cannot afford this course and FAS/Social Welfare both turned me down and told me that they do not fund courses...

the course provider has told me some of the other lads have been getting help with grants and that.

has anyone any advice on this? is there somewhere that will help me fund this course?

I was in your situation a long time ago and I had to take a job I did not want, in order to save and pay for a course.
If you really have your heart set on this course, then you should be able to be patient and save. Some people would say try a credit union but I prefer grafting first.
Despite what marketing material appears on the websites of these course providers, they are not interested in your career or your employment oppurtunities. They are profit making entities.
I am pleased that FAS and the social welfare are ceasing funding towards these private commercial operations. It is a poor use of taxpayers money.

    Best of luck.

Find a course that is funded. Assuming your entitled to a grant to a grant or back to education you will have some funding and the course paid for.

Essentially a fetac or higher education institute.

I work with students who seek funding through FAS and I've found it tends to depend on the office and who you deal with on the day. I wouldn't give up on it too quickly. Do you have a degree? You could look studying a fulltime BA in the area and getting the back to education allowance.

I would love to study it full time but I am only going 20 next month so I don't think I can get a back to education allowance.

Was talking to a few lads that do a course very similar in my local gym and they said the welfare gave 500e off of it but I was told that they stopped funding courses a year and a half ago...

Going in circles at this stage.. no way I could afford to pay for it out of my own pocket.

The local VEC is a decent place to start finding out about funding. There's people working there who are familiar with how stuff like this works generally. I talked to a couple of volunteers in my local VEC college before and found them very helpful.

Cheers mate.. I really do think it's all about how the person working in the Welfare is feeling that day.. either you get the funds or you are told no.

Very likely. You'd have to knock in (VEC or somewhere) and ask one of the people there to recommend you for funding. I find a lot of state agencies have a hand in each others pocket .

FAS sometimes pay for independent colleges and courses if they feel the grant will be well spent. Local councillors or constituency offices for the TDs can sometimes help too.

They still fund courses; I work for an education provider and we've had a rake of people come to use through FAS with 500quid funding. If it's a FAS office we haven't dealt with before, the first thing they ask is if we're FETAC accredited - once they get a yay to that it's good to go. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they only fund specific growth industries where employment is near guaranteed afterwards...unfortunately I don't think gym instructing/PT work falls into that category these days as so many are qualified.
