    Hi

Just upgraded the RAM in a friends laptop which left me with 2x1GB modules. I was wondering if I could use it in an old laptop of mine.

    This laptop is an Acer Aspire 3680-2682. Crucial says that it requires DDR2 PC2-5300 CL=5 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR2-667 1.8V 128Meg x 64

    The RAM I have spare is hynix 1gb 2rx8 pc2-5300e-555-12 (hymp512s64cp8-y5 ab)

Would this work or just blow my computer up :D

    Thanks

? Not really sure what you mean. Is the 667/555 the speed? If so, doubling what's the available ram already in the computer with slower speed ram probably would worsen an already slow computer :(

The 555 is a Hynix model number (AFAIK)

The actual important number is 5300. The 5300 denotes PC2-5300, or in old world speak, DDR2 667 MHz. Its exactly what your laptop needs

Tried the 2GB in the laptop and it seems to work fine. It's not being used for much, just some old apps.

Checked the old ram - is Hynix too but is pc2-4200s-444. Think someone else upgraded the ram in it before I got it.

Anyway, it all seems to be working fine so will keep it in :) Thanks for the help :)
