Hi lads, have my long awaited ESS now , he is fully trained , 27mts old and I got to shoot over him before the season ended, it was a great experiance. I get to walk him twice a day, he is as happy as a pig in sh*t, but I dont know if I should get him company as he was trained with other dogs, I didnt mind spending money on him but dont have any funds for a second dog with a line? Any ideas on a second dog or should I leave him alone ? Any thoughts ?

Great idea to get your dog a companion. It will help to socialise him and will stop him getting bored.

Two options if you have little or no money.
1.Buy something just for company(doesn't even need to be a gundog)
2.Go to your local pound and see what they have.(even better talk to the dog warden and ask him to keep an eye out for a suitable dog for you)You solve 2 problems-you get a companion for your dog and the rescued dog gets a good home.

you could keep an eye on the rescue dog pages for a young gundog that would come up and see how it goes, or get a pup with no lines fairly cheap on donedeal or the likes

if he is being taken out regulary and is happy enough, I would let it be and give him all the attention, another strange dog, which might not have the right temprement might put him off. If it aint broken dont fix it
