Last month The Times reported that it will air in April.

I've been looking forward to it since last October.

Seems to be a high likelihood of a second series.
The first five-part series of The Fall is due to begin on BBC Two in May and writer Allan Cubitt has already begun work on a second. Asked if she could see herself reprising the role for future series, Gillian said: "Yes, definitely."

I've seen a few ads for this on RTE lately plugging it as "home grown drama". From the credits I can find it seems to be a BBC/Northern Ireland Screen Board production, filmed entirely in Belfast.

Did RTE actually have any involvement in it whatsoever?

That would explain why RTE are apparently showing the first episode before the BBC.

Having said that, I suspect any RTE input was minimal, even their own website describes it as a BBC Drama
The X-Files' Gillian Anderson is to play the lead role of a detective superintendent in The Fall, BBC Two's new psychological thriller about the hunt for a serial killer in Belfast.

I saw that last week, went down the cast list on IMDB twice thinking it had to be him.

Just seen an ad for this, looks good, didn't know it was been showed on the BBC as well,is it a joint production as RTE are claiming it as home grown?

It's home grown in so far as it was filmed in Ireland but I've looked and so far I can find no connection that RTE has with it.
The series was created and written by Allan Cubitt and is being produced for BBC Two by Artists Studio and BBC Northern Ireland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen and the European Regional Development Fund.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_(TV_series)
The Fall is a new television series produced by Fables Limited in association with Artists Studio for BBC Two, commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

Well I did find this from the Herald
But now the flame-haired Gillian Anderson is set to star in a new RTE drama.
Gillian has starred in a number of high-profile roles since her days alongside Agent Mulder (David Duchovny), and is hopeful a new BBC/RTE co-production drama will be another hit.

RTE claiming 'The Fall' was a co-production here ...
A BBC/RTÉ co-production rather than a straightforward acquisition, this brand new five-part drama set in Northern Ireland stars former X-Files star Gillian Anderson and follows a PSNI investigation into a string of recent homicides

There are some reviews of the series online.
Considering that the killer is known from the start they don't contain spoilers.
The Fall is, hands down, one of the best home-grown dramas I’ve seen in several years, with the final episode being one of tensest hours of television I can recall since 24 went off the air.

Must set this up to Sky+.........on BBC, not RTE! So at least i wont miss the end when RTE start one episode late like they did with the season finale of Homeland!
Plus no ads on BBC! ;)

Hollyoaks from 1995 to around the mid-2000s (i.e. when it was a proper teen soap), surely?

Got a reply from RTE about this yesterday. They've had no involvement in making it. Apparently it's "homegrown" because most of the cast are Irish, and because it's filmed in Belfast. Ffs

    Sky+ set for Monday @ 9pm on BBC2.
HD with no ads. Sorry RTE.

If that is the case then I don't understand how RTE are airing the show before the BBC who made it. That would be totally unprecedented.

Why aren't they claiming Game of Thrones as homegrown? I mean, aren't there one or two Irish actors and some of it is also filmed in Belfast?

Well RTE's summer season press release of yesterday refers to "Big new international summer series on RTÉ One and RTÉ Two include gripping psychological thriller The Fall, an RTÉ co-production with BBC, starring Emmy award-winning actor Gillian Anderson.

I got a response to my complaint, which contradicts the info their own information department had given me in reply to my earlier query, and apparently RTE did in fact contribute towards the project.

    Sorry about the confusion!

What was the nature of their contribution - none of the three production houses involved has an RTE stake listed in this.

I found this in an online article but beware there is a major spoiler in the rest of the article (not included here obviously).
Allan Cubitt, whose credits include the second Prime Suspect, wanted to write a show that spent as much time with the serial killer and his victims as it did with a plodding police investigation.

Cubitt took the bare bones of his idea to his friend Gub Neal, a collaborator on Prime Suspect 2 who now runs production company Artists Studio.

Neal says: “This show is a model for what we want to do with Artists Studio: writers with their own vision working in pretty much the same way as top-level US showrunners. They have ownership of the material and the way it’s made, without the burden of running a business.”
The producer’s income for the show was to be split equally between Cubitt and Artists Studio.

Neal took the pitch to BBC Northern Ireland, which commissioned the script and put up two thirds of the £4.5 million budget. German rights group ZDF Enterprises came in alongside Irish broadcaster RTÉ and Flemish- language Belgian broadcaster VMMA. Content Media is handling international sales.

Northern Ireland Screen also backed the project, on the condition that it was shot in Belfast..

Didn't see if they mentioned the exact split but if, for example, you assume the remaining one third funding came from a roughly even split between the 3 non BBC NI partners, that would be around €450,000 - I wouldn't regard that as very little!
