Avon/grinds with JSA

    Hey all,

Recent graduate who has been on JSA since September. I'm planning to go abroad soon and have been looking for a job to fund this, with no joy. I have finished a TEFL course and probably the only way I can emigrate is to take a job in the Middle East/Asia where flights and accom are paid for.

In the meantime I'm trying to save a bit but as any on SW knows things come up, such as laptop breaking down etc etc. I am not spending lots at all, haven't had a haircut in months, cut back on all my luxuries like magazines, don't smoke, living at home, give my mum money for housekeeping.

I contacted the local Avon rep to ask about that, and have got an account. I also put an ad in the local paper offering grinds. Should I tell SW about these things? Haven't had anything from the grinds yet and only got my Avon account today...

A friend said she knew a guy who gave one horse-riding lesson a week and earned €20 from it and SW told him to stop???? I thought it would be hours worked rather than money earned? The money I'd get from either of these would be peanuts...

As JSA is a means assessed claim any income you have will be taken into account. As you would be self employed in either position you would have to assessed as self employed and means would be applied to your weekly rate.

Ah I see. Better talk to the welfare officer then. Jeepers, I was only trying to get enough together for a haircut!
