Have a look at the Easy Peasy Recipes thread, a lot of the recipes don't require an oven:

Slice up Chorizo and shallots - gently fry for a few minutes
    Add some halved tomatoes
Add a tin of butter beans
Add a little stock (maybe half a cup)
Throw in some spinach leaves - cover pan until they wilt.
    Stir in some crème fraiche.
Leave on low heat long enough to get it up to temperature.

Takes about ten minutes to cook - very filling.

Pesto pasta. Cook pasta, drain and stir in couple of scoops of pesto, grated cheese on top when served. Healthy, quick and simple. Ye could do various stir fries, stews, casseroles and soups, all packet sauces can be got in local supermarket. Use olive oil when frying, healthier.

A korean friend of mine is moving back home soon and stated that they will miss things like lasagne, as they also don't have ovens. Everything is pan fried. I don't use the oven much for my cooking but the idea of not having one seems mental to me.

You could make a risotto. This video helped me greatly with the rice frying technique, but you can do what you wish with the other ingredients.

A chorizo & chickpea stew is fantastic too. Mine is based on this video. I saute the celery for a few mins before adding it to the recipe, and also add in extra paprika and chilli powder for fun

Fry off bacon bits then leave to the side
Fry some chicken (thighs work best)
    Add onion/spring onion and garlic
put back in the bacon bits
add chicken stock, enough to just about barely cover the meat
leave to simmer for about 10 minutes
Option: at the 5 minute mark throw in some frozen peas
when done mix in enough creme fraiche to thicken the stock to make a creamy sauce

serve on a bed of rice

Sounds amazing. Mouth watering like hell here!

    Well done on the Erasmus.:)

Would the budget stretch to a slo cooker ? ( might increase the options just a bit )

    What about:
    - other curries, veg., chicken, lamb...(Lamb is more expensive in France than here though).
    - other stir-fries, veg., pork, lamb...
    - casseroles and stews of different styles, the possibilities are endless, and they are the cheapest types of meals, as the meat doesn't have to be an expensive cut.
    - omelettes and scrambled eggs, with or without ham, cheese...
    - mixed salads with some boiled eggs or lardons or chicken for protein...

Try not to stuff yourselves too much with the bread and pastries du coin, that's an Erasmus-student-in-France pitfall.
Enjoy the (tastier than in Ireland?) fruit and vegs you find in markets, seasonal is best and cheapest.
Get meat from a butcher if possible, and explain what you want it for. They'll help you with the most suitable type.
Always use only real butter, good oils and enjoy the cheeses!
Home-made sauces are cheaper after the initial outlay of spices, and so much better!

    Amusez-vous bien!

Go onto the Odlums website. They have loads of simple recipes and loads that don't need an oven (where they say to use breadcrumbs etc for a recipe just buy the bread!)
