    Hey Folks - can you advise where I could get a free download of windows (word, Excell etc). Doesn't have to be latest - 2003 would do. just need it for the kids school stuff.

    First of all, you can't talk about piracy here. Second of all, Windows is an operating system. Word, Excel etc, are part of Microsoft Office, which does not automatically come with Windows.

    use libreoffice instead, it's free

    Or OpenOffice. I've found that good in the past.

    As far as I know there aren't any student promotions for Office (which I can only assume is what the OP was talking about, as he clearly wouldn't be silly enough to mention anything else here) though I could be wrong. It's been a while since I looked.

    Try www.software4students.ie or the .co.uk version of the website. They have Microsoft Office 2010,2011 & 2013, fully authenticated by Microsoft, at hugely discounted prices.
