Freeview channels only coming in on one Saorview TV?

Anyone know why? Our Samsung tv which is downstairs has the freeview channels on it but our new Normende tv upstairs only has the saorview channels. I cannot remember if we got the freeview channels straight away or not on our downstairs tv. We are in SW Donegal.

If it's definitely Freeview (UK terrestrial) you're talking about, then a difference in signal at each tv point will be down to your distribution system. Maybe it could be improved, or the aerial feeding it.

Either that or the Freeview channels are at the bottom of the list on the Nordmende tv. Have you checked this?

    Hi peter,

The free view channels are definitely not listed anywhere on the normende TV. What exactly do you mean by the distribution system. Am technically challenged at the best of times unfortunately.

The distribution system is the cables, splitters, amplifiers etc. that carry the signal from the aerial around the house & make sure it arrives at each outlet in usable condition.

We need to be 100% sure we're dealing with terrestrial UK signal here (from a transmitter in NI) & not satellite. Some Samsung tvs have an integrated satellite tuner.

Please list the eact model number (digits and numbers from label on the back) of the Normende.

If you can get the UK channels via an aerial on one TV in the house, you should be able to get them on the other TVs.

You could try trace the cables back to see if they all go to the same aerials. As suggested the signal may just be very weak.

Can you list EVERY uk channel you are getting? For example do you have Dave?

Saorview here in the republic is transmitted with MPEG4 coding. Freeview in the UK is transmitted with MPEG2 coding. Some TVs are capable of decoding both MPEG2 and MPEG4, but not all of them. I would guess (but the instruction booklets will tell you for sure) that your Normende TV is MPEG4 only while the Samsung is MPEG2 and MPEG4 capable. I have done a quick search and found several Nordmende models that are MPEG4 only.

You would guess wrong. MPEG4 is downward compatible with MPEG2.

It's been covered, weak signals, different aerial, poor cabling or splitter. We wait until he has answered the questions asked.
