Maybe this is a silly question, but is it ok to buy alloy wheels from a crashed car in a scrap yard, they look fine, but just need to confirm that t is ok to buy them first.

    Thanks

But they look perfect, why would you not buy them? Is it because they may have buckles or leaks which can only be seen when taken off?

Rubbish. The car could be wrote off for all manner of reasons.

OP, If they look in good nic your main issue would be the potential that they could be buckled.

I'd have a look a the car and make a sensible decision.

Or invisible cracks that only show up on x-rays. Ultrasonics don't pick up all the stuff x-rays would.

    YMMV

I bought wheels from a seriously crashed car. Only got 3 mind you the other was beyond repair...

Don't expect them to be perfect!

Thanks for your replies. I think I will leave them as it sounds like too much of a risk. I will buy new ones online, Thanks

    Would you buy used underwear?

I wouldn't see the issue if you check them out properly. Have a good look at the inside and outside rim of each wheel to check for buckles and ask them to show you the wheels spinning on a balancing machine if they have one. If the wheel is badly buckled you can tell from looking at it spin! If there is crash damage in the area of the wheels though probably best to leave them.

    Ever buy a used car?

Did you put new wheels on it straight away for fear that the old ones may have been buckled or have invisible cracks?

    Same thing really.

    Eh no it's not.

There is a difference between a used car and a crashed used car. The wheels may be fine, they may have had a severe impact.

Either way you're likely to end up with skidmarks.

Crash damage isn't too bad, no damage to the wheel area. Doubt there could be much damage to the wheels!

They look fine, you'd need to see them square on to see if anything has been pushed back onto the front wheels, but from those angle pictures, i'd buy them if I needed them.

The back L/H wheel looks slightly dented.

Just check them for any damage. Any time I've bought wheels from a scrapyard they've had a device that checks for buckling; just a metal frame they put the wheel on and give it a spin. Even if there's a bit of paint damage or marking on the rim you can get them refurbished, if you pick them up cheap enough in the first place and it's worth it.

I'd walk away, those wheels could be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder;)

    You missed my point completely.

You don't really know the history of the wheels on a used car, they too could have had a severe impact, they could be cracked & welded, sure they could even have come from a written off car.....
