    Hi,
I currently have a 4 furrow standard Knverland plough. I need to update alot of the metal for it roughly 500 euros worth. I am thinking of selling the frame and buying a 3 furrow reversible.
Prob get a 3F reversible in good condition for 4K.

Is there much benefits of having a reversible?
I am only ploughing around 40 acres a yr.

    Thanks

Won't be a very clean reversible at 4k unless it has a 120 headstock and don't go there!

It really depends on your field size as to the benefits of reversible.

You can plough as much with a 4f conventional as with a 3f reversible if ploughing the one way depending on how fast you go when going back.:D

What are the issues with 120 headstock?

Something similar to this plough i was going to look at

One or two fields are fairly long so reversing is painful.

120 headstocks are prone to cracks and breaking.

Also if you decide to add another furrow, it is definitely not advisable.

no need to go back and forwards if you set out right, Space it out man, or new-age GPS. Conventional plough requires a brain, reversible requires a monkey to pilot :D:D only joking

Have you all day Bob to set up middles in small fields ;)

Sure what do you know about ploughing anyway given your direct drilling :P

the plough in the pictures has number 3 bodies so not as good as number 8 for ploughing grass. i personally would have no problem with a good 120 headstock provided you get a clean one with no welds. problem with 120 was that there was bushings that wore out and people didnt replace them soon enough and let the headstock break.

used to do all my own ploughing before with a 3 furrow. wasnt too bad either but get a lad in to do it with a reversible now. Noticed that the grass fields would always have a ridge or a hollow no matter how well i managed to close in or close out the jions. uncle who is a fantastic plough man used to find the same, wasnt as much of an issue for tillage land as that would be ploughed in again but was a pain when the fields were put back into grass. reversible does give a nice even finish accross the field. also a lot easier not having to get out and pace out every field before you start

You are right. 40 acres is 3 days work. It seems excessive to invest 4 k on a plough for that acreage.
