    Hi,

I recently bought shoes from Amazon. I had to pay import duties which I was fine with but before I bought them I checked with customer services if this amount was refundable if I returned them. I was assured that it would be. I returned the shoes and today I got the refund notice but without the import duties on them. I am out about 60 Euro. Is this right?

Yes; the duties is paid to the state so you need to get on to customs with your proof of return to get them to issue the refund of the duty to you.

Thanks for the reply but I paid the import duties directly to Amazon when I made the purchase so should the refund not come directly from them?

They pass on the duty to the customs; hence the refund has to come from customs. The same would be true if DHL had collected the customs at delivery of the package; the refund would not come from DHL but from customs.
