Personal Injuries Assessment Board

I renewed my motor insurance in November 2010. I ran into a car a few days later (slid on the snow/ice) at about 5kph.

I notified my (then) Broker on the day of the accident and they sent me a report form which I completed and returned to Broker in December 2010.

I heard nothing until October 2012 when I (and others) received letters from the other drivers' solicitor. I passed these letters to the Broker to whom I had reported the accident. (I was now with a new insurer).

Today I received TWO complex letters from the PIAB demanding €1,200. One is addreesed to my irish name and the other is addressed to my name in English. It's asking me to consent to it dealing with the claim. If I consent I have to send them at least €1,200 (€600 x 2) and if I don't consent I have to send nothing...

Any suggestions? What do I do?

    1. Talk to a solicitor?
    2. Talk to my former broker?
    3. Pay the money?
    4. Pay nothing?
    5. What will happen if I pay nothing?
    6. Why am I getting this hassle if I was insured?

    Any help would be appreciated.

send the letter / documents to the insurance company who covered you at the time of the accident. they will deal with it.
