The venerable Micra is due its NCT in the morning, it's first since it's been in our car. The issue is that we can't locate the vehicle registration book. Is this absolutely vital to have on the day? Is there any workaround to not having it?

Everything for the car is in its place in a folder bar this damn fecking thing.

No, it's not needed. Did my NCT recently without it. Just bring ID in case they look for it. This issue was covered on here recently and several others confirmed this also.

    Good luck with the test!

Turns out she found it in the car this morning...... which is odd as the glovebox never worked! Regardless it passed with flying colours!

Holding reg cert in the car is not a good idea.
If your car gets stolen, it will be very hard for you to prove, that it was actually stolen, as thief might insist that he bought this car off you, and him holding reg cert will be very good argument to confirm his version.

Some sound advice but, I'm rarely ever listened to when I mention anything about the car. I suddenly become useful when a service has to be booked, liquids changed etc.

The car hasn't been quite right since it broke down on the motorway and she had a 'youthful' local mechanic who was a friend of a friend fix it. Despite repeated naggings for her to drop it into Nissan Doctor she hasn't done so
