Keep doing what suits you and mind your maps. This is a bloody lottery. Also jeep an eye on what your nearest high up ifa man does. One I know about started fattening cattle in 2001 and got out in 2003. He is a dairy man and hadn't ever done it before or hasn't since.

thanks, would ther be any point in buying entitlements or can i do that or do you think they are going to up my entitlements to the national average?

I haven't a notion what to advise anybody. The talk is that the value of entitlements will head towards a national average for all so once you have an entitlement for each ha you are in the hat so to speak. Like I say, its a lottery.

The figure I keep hearing mentioned is €242 Hectare. Think thats a European average, or something. (Reps planner's thinking) So that would suit you rightly!

Are you under 35, if so try upgrading through the national reserve, I helped a young farmer get entitlements from national reserve equal to the average in the area....220/ha

should have bought them back in the boom when ye were a wash with money;). not sure if you will get anything above what you paid for them with 2 years left. may only be two years left of this current system. yea €240/hec seems to be the figure and 40 is a young farmer. more like middle aged.

ha ha - so 45 could be the new young...

It would be funny, if it wasn't for the fact that it shows how few young people are going farming I guess...

no what i meant by buying entitlements now was in case they use these years as reference years ,or is that complete nonsense ,the brother thinks there is going to be no reference years and everybody gets the same ,somehow i dont believe this ,or am i talking complete horseshi...

Seems the EU is very concerned about the lack of new entrants, I'm no help to the situation, any students who come here for farm walks are very quickly given the facts of life regarding farming.
Blockie won't mind being classed as a young farmer if it earns him a bonus on his SFP entitlements

I'm in the market for some entitlements, have none, only started farming this year. A suggestion made to me was to buy the highest value entitlements I could afford as they will reduce more slowly to the proposed national average of €200/ha or so.

I think that's the national average, but we shouldn't be depending on that figure, I think some genius has taken the amount paid out divided by the area claimed and gone with that figure but there is a lot of land not being claimed on for whatever reason and if it goes flat rate and every acre is eligible ,we all could get a fright

if its only a hundereth a hectare id be on the winning team but what im afraid of is my 1100 sfp being divided by 23 giving me 47 euro per hectare meaning no change or is that silly ?

buy some middle of the road entitlements, for a bit of the land. I personally wouldnt be buying high value entitlements, its too big of a risk. i dont think anyone knows whats happening at the moment.

Plenty of lads in the journal or try a local agri based auctioneer. think you will have till the 1st of march but could be wrong. i have spent more than i should already
and just rented them with the land i took.

I priced a few with the auctioneers advertising in the journal. Not cheap: below €100 can be got at facevalue; over 100 1.1 to 1.4 times facevalue; over €200 at 1.5 and €300 at 1.6 times face value. Plus 3% auctioneers fee and vat on those fees.
