i've being going through some of my old martial arts old notepads and books this weekend. i have a pretty exenstive collection covering some of the arts i've practiced such as kung-fu, internal chinese martial arts and weapons arts (ranging from chinese martial arts and eskrima).

Since my teacher Master PJ Bennis died there has'nt been a month since i have'nt referred back to some of the drills and techniques described within.
whats more, i think keeping notebooks is a vital way of recording personal martial arts achievements and acting as a filter for when the syllabus improves or evolves.

some people may make video archives and recently this is now my preferred way of recording martial concepts/techniques.

anyone else here keep or has kept personal notebooks for training?

heres some excerpts from my own notebooks.

    Fair play for sharing.

Surely even with mini diagrams a technique described on paper is very open to misinterpretation. Wouldn't videos be much easier to follow/store/share than handwritten notebooks?

Well, these were done at at time when i didnt have the funds/access to a camcorder, but the diagrama just give an outline concept.

The chinese arts have been doing this for 100's of years and it worked as a reference. I have seen in my time very professional manuals for senior/instructor level students in kung fu. One i recollect was like a work of art with the detail in the diagrams.

I have now quite a few notebooks full of notes and it continues.

This clip from Coach Greg Nelson is very relevant:
