That's the general feeling in the After Hours thread about it.

    Finger hurts from scrolling.
When are people going to learn that so many sections on a homepage is not good use of space!

Looks a shïtload better than the old version, to be fair.

Nah it doesn't, it's really awful.

It's all papers from the Independent group that have got this look.

My favourite post from that thread by someone called General Zod:
They should fix the title of the "Woman" section. It should read "Don't worry your pretty little head about the serious news, here's some models you won't ever look like and some horoscopes to fill your tiny brains".

For me they made a balls of the website.
Oversized Fonts and spacing, only headers, headings and advertisements feature.

The previous format of the online version was one of the redeeming qualities of the rag. The new site is amazingly s!!t and I can barely bear to navigate it.

Apparently at some stage this year they're going to move to a pay model for the site. They'd better make some big improvements if they want people to pay to access it!

    Same with the Belfast Telegraph.

No way would any sane person pay for the site as it stands today - the Irish Times site updates just after midnight, the Indo used to by 5-6am, now with the 'new look' it's just rehashing old news. Today's (16Feb) site had the same headings under News/Business/Personal Finance until 08.30 when they finally seem to have got around to organising the site. Improved ? - if it ain't broke, don't fix it

I didn't spot the Bel Tel - obviously they have don a batch real on the CMS They use a propriorty system to publish their titles (Atex/Mac based if I remember correctly) so that's spitting out the raw copy on all their titles - they just have to uniformly adapt that.

I notice that all the regional papers are under the same new design as well, which makes sense.

One thing I did notice is that all the regionals have moved from stand alone url's: like the argus.ie has now gone to http://www.independent.ie/regionals/argus/

Personally I'm in two minds about the design. It's a step in the right direction, but there is something about it I don like - and I find it hard to define. Perhaps its the headline font - its a bit stark.

What I absolutely hate is the 'advert island' in the middle of each story its appalling and intrusive.

It is an absolute mess of a website designed by people who know little or nothing about Information Architecture and have probably only ever built a mickey mouse website of a ten pages or less with a Joomla/Wordpress template. It is a a really, really bad design from an IA point of view. Aesthetically, it is bad as it seems to have been designed for sub-literates who click and drool rather than read. The front page just vomits content on to the screen rather than giving the user cues for sections.

It's been two weeks since we launched the new Independent.ie and you've certainly given us plenty to think about. There's been some positive feedback and naturally some more mixed reactions.

If you like the site and told us so, thank you for your feedback, it's much appreciated!

If you weren't so keen on the new design, we hope you'll continue to persist with the new site and that you'll see the benefits in time.

We've taken note of all your feedback and will look at it in detail and use it to inform our decisions as we move forward.

indo.ie hardly ever works always diverting to some thing called ow.ly sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn't indo.ie was easy to type Independent.ie is too long and when indo.ie doesn't work I don't bother to retype and go to a different website instead.

I am using it less than before. Hate the new look and feel. Gave it a chance for a few weeks.

Difficult to tell what's today's news and what was last week's, difficult to tell what's Irish and what's not, and you can't use the 'back' button on your browser as it redirects a number of times when you click on a link.

I'm using it less and less. Maybe that's what they want, to encourage people to stop reading it for free!

That was always the case with their direct use of agency stories. It's very frustrating alright

Whoever they got to "Re-Design" the site needs a good slap. Its painful to navigate.

Even their Irish stories are coming from foreign agencies now by the looks of things.
