@FloydMayweather: The negotiations for my fight are almost done. The front runner is IBF Champion Devon Alexander. It’d be a unification bout at welterweight.

Surely Floyd would be better off fighting Guerrero? With the Mexican PPV money the fight purse would surely be bigger. Silly fight....Floyd will gain nothing from this.

Seems like he's just having a tantrum because the fights with Guerrero and Canelo were leaked before he announced them . Expect the Guerrero fight to be announced in the next few days

If this is serious then that's depressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Surely this can't be genuine? Alexander? This would tip over into full blown embarrassing territory as far as Mayweather match-making goes. I would be shocked if this goes ahead.

I can't see this happening. Floyd is up to something!

People need to stop believing this asap

This must be about either raising the stock of a Guerrero fight, or engaging in brinkmanship to force Guerrero to agree to a price. It has to be.

The Alexander fight has absolutely nothing going for it. It's a horrible match on several levels, and it makes no financial sense either.

    It's a gambit IMO.

Such a sly move by the Alexander camp, if this is indeed true.

Pull out of the Brook fight with an "injury", and schedule a payday with Mayweather, knowing full well you're going to be defeated.

Again though, this may well not be true.

Probably happened the other way around. Alexander gets injured, he's a Haymon fighter so Haymon and Mayweather take advantage of the situation and use his name as leverage in a deal with Guerrero. As an added bonus, grumbling over the Floyd-Guerrero fight evaporates at the prospect of a fight between Floyd and Alexander.

If it actually is Alexander it might well be the most boring fight in the history of the sport.

This fight won't happen, devon's only chance is floyd picking up an injury and being unable to continue. Noone would pay to watch that

This fight isnt going to happen . No need to be discussing it

This fight is the definition of awful if it happens. I really hope it doesn't.

According to Steve Kim, the hold-up with the Floyd-Guerrero fight is not because of money as was initially thought. It seems the story from the Mayweather side that Guerrero was holding out for a higher price wasn't true.

Hard to know what the problem is then. Is Floyd getting cold feet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭willmunny1990

It's been nearly a year since he's last fought and he'll be 36 years old when he fights next. I'm not so sure he's getting cold feet but the clock is ticking.

He's not going to risk the unbeaten streak so he'll be very careful about who he fights next and i think Devon would be an easy option, a unification bout against a man who poses no real threat what so ever.

I've seen it suggested in some quarters that the problem is not with Guerrero, the problem's with Canelo. Floyd wants Canelo on the undercard to boost PPV numbers, bit it seems Canelo and GBP may want a Mayweather-Canelo bout in September as part of the deal.

I've seen a few articles, (this being one example - http://www.boxingscene.com/mayweather-alexander-arias-reveals-why-floyd-tweeted--62247) that indicate Floyd is rather agitated over being 'forced' into doing something. Maybe Golden Boy are on Canelo's side and he's not happy about it?

Alexander? This guy was a step up for Kell brook, a test for Kell. yet the greatest wants to fight him next. Yawn

However there is a good chance Floyd is using Alexander to screw Guerreo

Canelo vs Trout is official :D Can't wait for it!

Canelo tweeted on his official account "Canelo vs Trout may 4 MGM.”

Big news on this today. Mayweather has left HBO and signed a six fight deal with Showtime/CBS! - http://www.boxingscene.com/mayweather-inks-huge-six-fight-deal-with-showtime-cbs--62540

Also officially announced he's fighting Guerrero on May 4th.

Some bad new for the Mayweather clan today as well. Mickey Bey's T/E ratio was 30:1 after his fight the other night! Bearing in mind that there's a 1% chance of an athlete having a higher than 4:1 ratio that gives you some impression of how doped he was. Bey trains in the Mayweather Gym and is trained by Mayweather Sr.

I must say I'm really surprised he signed on for 6 more fights. He looks like he only has one or two more fights in him against top opposition before he starts losing. He struggled against cotto who was made to look mediocre by Trout.

Maybe Floyd will be another in the long list of talented boxers who kept fighting past their best for the cash.

It's "up to six fights", there isn't a hope in hell Mayweather will fight 6 times in 30 months. I'd say there's probably a 3 fight minimum or something to that effect.

Any crude slugger type fighter Mayweather wouldnt have a problem beating in the next 2 years even when he is past it . If he can beat Guerrero / Canelo then he can make his money facing the likes of Danny Garcia etc . . And to be honest i wouldnt hold it against him if he manages to win in May & September .

i really no longer feel that floyd is unbeatable the cotto fight showed for me that he can be beat. in truth trout showed where cotto is at now and floyd struggled with him, in a way i think that because floyd is no longer so far ahead of his opponents i think his fights will be much more enjoyable and entertaining as they wont be one sided so i am looking forward to may 4th for floyd though if he wants to remain unbeaten i think at most 4 fights more and at that against carefully chosen fighters, as TheNap said fighting crude slugger fights will be his best bet at staying unbeaten

He beat a big and strong Cotto pretty easily, I don't know waht fight you where watching?!

I agree . I think it was blown out of proportion because Cotto landed more than usual . It was also reported Mayweather was sick and came into the ring lighter than the weigh in . We will know come May 4th anyway . With Canelo-Trout and possibly Broner or Khan on the undercard it will be one of the biggest nights of boxing in years .

Turns out this theory was accurate. Canelo may be off the May 4th undercard now as he wants a Mayweather fight later in the year in return. Floyd not willing to give it to him it seems. Dan Rafael has been tweeting about it tonight.

    Bit naive of Canelo tbh

I dont think Floyd cares any more who he fights...the likes of Alexander would be ok by him as imo he is just looking to beat Marciano's record. 6 more easy fights and he is there...why not take 6 easy fights over 6 hard ones to get the record...maybe thats what he is thinking

Canelo-Trout is off the Mayweather undercard and has been moved up to April 20th, most likely in the Alamodome in Texas.

Martinez would beat him if they did fight especially if mayweather went up in weight also i think trout and canelo would have a chance against him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭Andrew Flexing

Didnt Floyd beat JMM already? Though I think JMM went down in weight for that fight?

I'd like Canelo and Pacman to fight floyd. I disagree about Trout but it would be a good fight.

Not only did Floyd fight the smaller man (JMM) he came in over weight.

Floyd next victim... same as last time. The fans

    who can beat him?

Canelo, Trout, Martinez. Also, MWs, SMWs right up to HW. Floyd at 147 lbs is the best on the planet.

Martinez v Floyd would be class!

Who wins between Canelo v Trout?

We'll know a lot more about Canelo after the Trout fight. I'm not inclined to consider him a significant threat to Mayweather until I've seen what he can do against a quality opponent.

Canelo has the perfect blend of speed and slipperiness to cause Canelo real problems. Plus, he's a southpaw. A slippy southpaw!

    Floyd is a muppet.

Big fan of Guerrero, not sure if he can pull off the win but I expect him to be competitive.
