Replacement from Apple?

Are all replacements from Apple refurbished? And also, are they locked like the original phone being replaced?
What's the usual turn around time from Collection to return?

    Thanks :D

Yes and yes. All of those questions have been answered 1000's of times already

Not strictly correct. If you are going through the regular insurance companies then what has been said is likely true but through AppleCare, things are different and I'm talking about the AppleCare scenario. Yes, some replacements are refurbished. There is a replacement stock pool of dedicated replacement devices and these carry their own class of serial number to denote that they came from that pool. I don't believe these are refurbs but feel free to comment. Early on in a life cycle you are more likely to receive a refurb or even a brand new device if it's very soon after release. As devices grow older you are likely to receive a device from the replacement pool.

My last iPhone 4 replacement was a pool sourced device and came unlocked as standard. I believe that is the norm from Apple.

What's the difference anyway. Neither will have any benefit over the other and both get the same warranty

9/10 times you will receive a refurbed device. At least that is my experience with 4 replacement iPhone 4's And it will be exactly what you sent i.e. If you sent a locked O2 iPhone to Apple, you will receive a locked O2 iPhone. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference as the warranty, look and feel are identical to a new phone.

    Insurance companies are entirely different.
