I have terrible non allergic rhinitis. Rhinitis is a condition that causes the nose to swell. My passion is sport but my oversensitivity to cold/windy air is preventing me from participating. Having a nose like a dolphin isn't a good look :/

I have sinusitis and asthma so somewhat similar. Exercise can actually help. If you like swimming wear a nose plug. If your eyes act up get cucumber eye gel for €2 in boots, it's fantastic!

Don't let it put you off sport no one looks attractive on the field (apart from Simon Zebo maybe....)

Why dont you go to an ENT?

We cannot give medical advice here but I have sinus issues that were preventing me exercising outdoors in cold weather and its resolved now. And a nose clip for swimming.

What did the ENT specialist do, out of interest (aware our problems might be different!)

Thanks to both of you for replying btw.

    godot,
whilst checking into the possibilities other users have posted, woud using a face mask help?
there are surgical type ones like the sort michael jackson wore but also the DIY type that became popular in the rave years.

what sort of sports is it?
a lot of sports are also done indoors, if have not heard of it before boccia is really addictive and is done both indoor and outdoor.
trampoline, badmington, archery, basketball, football, gymnastics etc are all indoor friendly.
doing flatwork horse riding lessons in a fully covered decent indoor riding arena coud possibly be manageable to-dont know as have never suffered from that problem.

dont let a illness or impairment stop something that love doing, theres most often ways around impairments of all kinds.
tthe disabilities of mine accutely limit accessing the community or sports, but am a special olympics athlete and had been a RDA [riding for the disabled association] rider for many years;am unable to use saddles or stirrups and am paralyzed from the waist down after seizures but still manage to ride horses after a seizure as helpers on both sides control legs.

if love a sport and are impaired in some way, theres nothing better than sticking fingers up at the problem by finding ways around it.:D

We cant give medical advice here. I am wary of how much I can say. I did have a surgery on the sinuses for polyps but I have cold air issues both with the nose and the chest - there is medicine that they can give.

I have rhinitis, and to be honest I'm not sure if its allergic or not, but I presume it is as its triggered by pollen and hayfever.

Things that have really helped me is a prescription nose spray called avamys, its amazing stuff and I've never had anything that has worked better. Most over the counter meds will be crap.
Definitely go see your GP about it, they will offer you the best course of action.

Get to the GP as the others have said.

I have had 8 foot surgeries and suffer chronic pain. I still hit the Himalayas after being sick of thinking i'll never do it. I didn't quite make Everest but I gave it a damn good shot, and despite all the pain and suffering I'd do it again in a heart beat. It sucks to be held back but you can try other things, and work with what you have. I didn't make huge progress but the lady from the Discovery channel was crying when I left and told me I had the heart of a lion to carry on with such injuries and pain. Take what you have and see what you can make it into. It might not be top tier, super athelete stuff, but you can make yourself proud still!

You may be limited in what you can do but you can still fight damn hard. Get to the doctor and fight this thing!

Ah there's plenty that can be done for rhinitis, whether it's allergic rhinitis or not (as long as you are sure that's what you have!). There are sprays, oral steroids, different types of injections even. Don't suffer. Get referred to an ENT specialist and he/she will treat you appropriately. In this day and age with treatment out there for rhinitis there is no reason you should be continually suffering or unable to lead a normal life due to this condition.

go to a GP / ENT.

I've awful allergic rhinnitis my nose runs like a tap. eyes kill me, I get banging headaches. The only thing that works for me is the hayfever injections at high dose so I get one of those every Spring when the pollen comes out (seems to start when things start growing). It makes a massive difference to me.

there are loads of other treatments that GPs can recommend (they did not work for me but may for you) from nose sprays to sinus rinse to tablets or even pollen tablets
