Today, adbock plus some how lost the list of ads to block. It's fixed now thank god but every single page I went to was covered in ads. All they do is flicker and annoy you.

Does anyone not use adblock, and if so why?

I don't use it as I have this apparently uncommon ability to ignore shít on the internet without needing the software equivalent of blinkers

Apples and oranges. For one thing most ads on the internet are in addition to the content you wish to read, so you can ignore them and still get the same thing you want - the content. Ads on TV aren't shown in addition to the TV show, they're shown in between.

To answer your question anyway it's a no, I don't channel hop during ads on the TV.

Why can't people just ignore the ads? The only annoying ones are the ones that automatically play music when you open a page. Other than that, just ignore them.
Or you could subscribe to Boards and turn ads off!

The Internet can be an ugly place. Like this internet dating lark. I'd never subscribe to that. I'd rather find a person the traditional way.

    Through alcohol and pure judgement

That's OK for non instrusive ad banners and little things, they're totally ignorable. The problem comes from the noisemaker ads, the ones with video, sound, blinking lights and the like. The ones that threaten to almost completely obfuscate a web page, that give you their totally undesirable pitch with each visit and that threaten to use up precious data if you're on a capped mobile internet plan. A waste of time and money on both sides. Huge gratitude to Ad Block Plus and it's makers for putting manners on arrogant advertisers.

I realise that many websites are funded by revenue from this so hopefully ad makers will continue to make more modest ads in future, conducive to a seamless web browsing experience and internet users will be able to turn off their adblockers on websites they enjoy and want to give a little bit back to.

Just ignore ads. I click too fast for ads to keeps up anyway.

I used to have adblocker software, but you start to miss out on what is current, like new phones, windows software, new software. The 'zeitgeist' I think it's called somewhere ?

So I went back to ads to keep in touch as I don't watch a lot of TV.

I only discovered adblock last year. Its great. Pity it doesn't stop junkmail coming in through the letter box.

Following 3 or 4 tech news sites would keep you up to date.

Why did you stop using it?

Mainly because I swapped browsers to Chrome and never installed it. Now none of the browsers I use have Adblock installed except Firefox at home, but that's more out of laziness for an uninstall - Chrome is the primary. I also realised that 90% of the sites I visit are visited repeatedly, I like them, so I'm not going to do them out of advertising revenue. I will complain if the ads become properly intrusive (i.e. popup, popunder, auto-playing video, sound, seizure inducing ads with flashing backgrounds etc).

yeah, unless you are clicking on those ads and buying things, you are doing diddly squat to "help" the site out.

ad block is great stops those annoying 5 second ads on youtube

I use it but I'd rather not. The only site I really want to block ads on is YouTube because they're so damn annoying, but ABP only works on a whitelist rather than a blacklist. So I have a fair few sites whitelisted.

I used to use AdBlockVideo which did just the job, but they stopped updating it with Firefox 15.

And who said I wasn't? I've clicked on a fair few - the most recent being an ad for Mouseflow (and all the muslim women ones here to boards too :pac:). Anything else? Also there are CPM (Impression) rates, and I count as an impression while you do not.

Na, they mostly work by impressions now, once they're displayed, site benefits. It use to be the way you're thinking, still is for some I think but mostly impressions now.

Impressions are free with Google ads. Plus it's not like you couldn't use tor to randomly generate ip addresses and have 1000's of impressions

TV ads are shown in addition to the programs! It's exactly the same as having the article you're reading interrupted by an advert, you have to scan the ad to to find the continuation of the article. Sure, the interruption is brief but they are frequent. Also, I didn't ask if you watched the TV ads, I asked would you remove them if you could!

Each to their own though. Which reminds me, I must add an exception for boards.

Pay by the thousand impressions with Google Ads? No?

Reading around there abit on it though it really comes down to the type of advertiser and the campaign they want to run...

Anyway...don't really care or want to get into it so I leaving it there.

I don't know any site that forces their advertisement on me for 3 minute segments. If I did I would most definitely be in favour of removing them. I pay a license fee for TV, I do not for content on the internet. That's just two differences, there are many. Hence the apples and oranges comment. I fail to see the relevance of TV ads, it's not what the topic is about.

But if you don't read the adverts, isn't that like stealing from the internet?

How come I don't have this problem?
Only sites I've ever been on that had ads with sound are dodgy porn.

So by my own reasoning, people that use ad blocker are perverts.

I use adblock for chrome. Main reason i installed it was because on my slow connection it really improves my browser speed.

I don't use NoScript because it hampers the user experience too much. Disabling JavaScript just breaks too many sites.

It's abit of a headache/takes abit of time to figure out what needs to be allowed but all good then.

People visit more sites than just boards.ie with adblock. The reason I use adblock is because certain sites have a pop up for gambling or whatever every time you click link, so I use adblock for those sites and just forget to turn it off.

Can ignore them most of them time, but after the 8 billionth 'the internet has blessed me with a $23463466 an hour job' and 24 billionth 'cut down a bit of your belly fat every day with this weird old tip', they can feck off, really.

All joking aside that is my main reason, when I watch porn there is constant ads so I install adblock to get around that. I really should start browsing sites like boards on a different browser or disable adblock when browsing boards because its such a good site. I think I will use firefox for boards in the future.

Also adblock is also used to get around those annoying ads on youtube.

Jesus Christ, why did I look at that, 1 man 1 screwdriver, I actually feel sick. Why? Why? Why would he do that? Like there is no sexual gratification from it.
