Emirates dilemma!?

I booked flights to thailand last year with Emirates but in the end couldnt go,I tried to cancel the flight but all they let me do is to book again up to the value of the flight 720 euro.

We are thinking about going to Vegas this year but either the flights are to expensive (7 or 8K !!) and the flight time is crazy (flying from heathrow to Dubai then to texas to las vegas)

Looking at going In late September early October and I want to use this,does anyone have any ideas or any experience doing this with this airline? Even if I can use it partly or at all as I dont want to lose the money!

Flying to Las Vegas via Dubai & Texas will cost alot more than the value of the flight to Thailand so I would rate that as a non-runner; also it is an insanely illogical routing taking twice as long to fly there. If you can do a name change then try sell the flights at a loss and cut your losses and run.

maybe i explained it wrong, every time i try and book the flight to vegas that's the route they go, i don't want to go that route and its crazy expensive.

That's because it's a crazy, insane route. There would be zero sense in trying to fly book Emirates to Vegas - of course they're trying to fly you via Dubai, as that's their base. They don't fly anywhere else -> the USA.

You might as well try fly to South Africa via Canada.

You might be better off trying to see if a) name changes are possible, though I'm pretty sure Emirates don't allow name changes or b) reconsider your holiday plans and use the credit for a routing to a destination they actually fly.

Yea thats what I was fearing,I was maybe thinking trying to get on one of there connnecting flights in america eg new york to vegas or something similar.The way its going i wont be able to use this and its alot of money to have wasted.

My other option is to go to Dubai,but not sure if i want to go on my own just for the sake of it!

Is Bangkok not an option this time? Basically Emirates is a Middle Eastern airline and the best value you're going to get is to the middle/far east. It would make no sense to fly hours to Dublin and then fly hours and hours West, right past Ireland, and that's why Vegas is working out crazy expensive.

How about using the credit to go to Australia? or India, you could have a nice chilled holiday in Goa or Kerala?

On my own, I'm working aswell so would need the holidays for vegas, all good ideas, thanks to all the posters
