Not all the functions in the software will work with an eBay cable and rightly so if you ask me!

What are you trying to do?

Everything is pretty well explained on the Ross-Tech website. The guys in support are also very helpful if you drop them an email.

well, it is risky buy "genuine" ross tech cables in ebay. how much you paid ?
genuine cable prices here - in ross tech shop

what you want to do ?

I think even if you buy a used genuine cable off ebay you still have to.. buy the registered version of the software??

its a genuine used ross tech cable, its not the fake Chinese one as wouldn't touch one of those.
it has not got the can for the newer models

ok its an 2001 passat tdi 130bhp

1/ i fitted a secondhand comfort control unit in the car but have lost the remote central locking so need to code it in

2/ fitted new brake pads but wear indicator on dash remains on, need to switch this off

3/ i need to switch the alarm off too

so would appreciate step by step instructions on how to these things please

    thanks

I don't think you can code with vcds.

Turning off the warning light should be as easy as scanning the car and then clearing the logged faults.

The alarm, again not sure if it can be done.

    click [Select]
    then [17 - Instruments]
    then [Recode - 07]
Write down the existing coding for future reference.
Enter 5-digit code from below - important incase you want it back to normal for whatever reason
    then click [Do It!]

Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding.

    00 - No available equipment
+01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active
    +02 - Seatbelt warning active
+04 - Washer fluid level warning active
+08 = Seatbelt Warning active (NAR only)
+10 = Seatbelt Warning Driver & Passenger active (NAR only)
    +16 = Secondary Display (Radio/Navigation) active

Look at the third digit in the coding (Market version):

1 - "EU" 24 hour clock (may result in odometer in km in 2002+ clusters)
    2 - "USA" 12 hour clock
3 - "Canada" 12 hour clock (may result in odometer in km in 2002+ clusters)
"The third digit in the code is the country code. The codes are:
4 - "UK" 24 hour clock (should result in odometer in miles)
    5 - Japan
    6 - Saudi Arabia
    7 - Australia

Look at the fourth digit in the coding (Cylinders):

    3 - No Service Interval (2002+ models)
    4 - 4-cylinder (1999-2001 models)
    6 - 6-cylinder (1999-2001 models)

Look at the fifth digit in the coding (Distance impulse multiplier):

    2 - 3538
    4 - 3648 (some 2002+ models)

So, if you want to have Seatbelt warning and washer fluid warning only in a 2001 Canadian 6-cylinder vehicle, (add 00+02+04 = 06),3,6,2 = 06362

Done this over christmas on my van. I basically just change the first two digits to 00XXX as that was on a MkIV transporter so I had no seatbelt warning etc. You may have to do a small bit of maths. Just the first 2 digits -01 . Rosstech says it's for a MkIV golf but it worked on my van. Should work on a passat too.

The wear indicator should go off if all is well with the circuit when new pads are fitted. It does not need resetting at all in the normal course of evens.
The procedure listed in post above is for the removal of the the pad warning from the system. Handy if you cannot sort the issue with the wiring but I would certainly try to keep it working by looking at the wiring.

ok thanks, biggest problem is the remote central locking not working because of this every time i open the doors or boot with the key the alarm goes off and i can't shut it off, very annoying... lost all this when i fitted the another ccm due to original being water damaged

You wont be able to disable the alarm with vagcom. Never heard of a CCM. Hope you get it sorted.

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_%281K%29_Comfort_System

According to this you need the coding from your original module.

You should be able to code the CCM with VCDS,you might need the long coding from your old CCM though.

Out of interest how much did you pay for the cable of ebay?

ok any idea how i do this

    i paid 120stg for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭dieselbug

You did well at 120stg for it. They normally make crazy money, usually go close to the price of a new one.

Not 100% sure, but i know the CCM on my old A4 was replaced before i bought it,the previous owner had fitted one from a LHD drive car off ebay and it was possible to change the coding via VCDS to RHD.

At the very least you should try access the CCM via VCDS and go into coding, have a sniff around and see what can be changed - there should be an embedded text file that tells you how to enable/disable the various features.

KEY POINT IS SAVE THE CURRENT CODING (copy and paste it to a text file) BEFORE YOU RE CODE,that way you can revert back.

Can this sort out my key remote or code it, would have liked to be able to disable the alarm as driving me crazy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Mar4ix

you should scan car, and see what problem is, could be door switch or something disconnected, and alarm goes off. doubt it goes off with no reason, so maybe find fault, fix it, and alarm wont disturb you.

There's lot of genuine vcds unit on ebay but they usually make more than you paid. Is it possibly the lite version?

You can register on Ross-Tech for support but if the previous owner already had it registered you will have to pay $90us to change the registration to you.

Change the software coding from 05415 to 04415.
