    hey all

i'm using " myfitnesspal " on the ipad and when i put in my info ie age / sex / height / weight / job type etc and based on me wanting to lose 2 lbs a week it said i had a nett daily intake of 2040 cals and whatever i earn in the gym is extra

my question is , is it just as simple as counting the cals good and bad cals ??

i know in the real world you eat wholegrain foods and grill chicken fillets etc , but you will now and again eat something processed ie southern friend chicken fillet , do i just count the cals regardless of the food type ???

Simply put, to lose weight you need to eat less calories than you expend.

Personally I would prefer to ensure that those calories come from healthy foods and not processed foods.

(BTW Wholegrain foods are necessarily healthy)

Also, MFP is a bit messed up with determining calories amounts for people. The recommended suggestion is body weight in lbs X 12 for weight loss, x 14 to maintain and x 16 to gain.

If you want to post up what you regularly eat on a day to day basis we can critique it for you.

There is no such thing as good cals and bad cals. All calories count towards your total. If you want to you can eat 2040 kcals of pure sugar. as long as you dont go over 2040 you will lose weight. You will be starving hungry, feel and look like crap and give up after a day.

Better to plan your food and eat a well balanced diet which will leave you feeling full and provide all the nutrients your body needs in one day.

have a look at a few 'please help my diet' type threads and read the stickies to get some idea of the type of food you can eat to get to 2040 cals and still feel full and healthy.

    my diet is usually:

3 eggs, 1 piece of fruit some meat for breakfast
meat and a salad of veg and greens for lunch
meat and lots of veg for dinner.

snack on nuts and dried jerky.

occasional treats like sweets, chocolate. all within my weekly calorie allowance.
