I've started using my camera somewhat more for gig videos but ofc I need to be able to focus correctly.
So I went to Berminghams and was just quoted 400 euros for one!
Anyone have any suggestions where I'd get a more reasonable priced one?

(Assuming I understand what you mean)

I use one of these. Does the job of magnifying, but isn't adjustable for eyesight like the more expensive ones (so if you wear glasses, you'll have to keep them on).

What is the thing that just sits on the screen called? Not the eye focus bit, but the actual screen?

What you are looking for is a viewfinder Loupe. Here is a much cheaper one than what you were quoted - http://www.carryspeed.com/products/lcd-view-finder

Get yourself a Monopod, the Carry Speed Loupe above and a Zoom H1 for sound and you should be able to get pretty good footage of the gigs plus you will have change left out of the €400!!
