Hi everyone .I am looking into having our wedding at our venue and was wondering if someone can recommend a solemniser .I was hoping to have the ceremony around 7 or 8pm and just have a party in the same venue .I am trying to keep it as relaxed as possible and also keep costs down.I have been in touch with a solemniser who quoted me 400 euro to perform a ceremony .Is it just me or is that very expensive ? I had no idea it would be so much and then we have to pay 200 to the HSE also. Can anyone tell me if this is norm or maybe recommend an alternative .I would really appreciate the advice .

That's about what we paid our humanist celebrant. TBH if you choose anything over and above the HSE solenmiser in the registry offices its at your discretion what you pay for it. Anything outside that simple civil ceremony is your call as to whether you want to pay for it.

Is that our only option if we want to get married outside the HSE ?

The options are a private celebrant, such as a priest or now humanist solemniser, or to just have the HSE. We had a quick legal ceremony and then a humanist wedding later as the HAI weren't legally allowed to perform marriages when we got married. The money was well worth it.

Try Tom Colton from the Spiritualist Union of Ireland. He's marrying us in a few weeks time. He will marry you anywhere or time and is legally binding too.
