hi everyone. i just got an e60 (that i am picking up soon). It has standard wheels on , and in the boot, there is a spacesaver kit. however, there is no wheel with it.

there might have been before, but it aint there anymore.

I am wondering, what kind of wheel can i get for it. i would like the cheapest and where i could get one.

im not expecting to be using it, but you never know.

Therefore, the ideal thing i think is to have steel wheels with a tyre. I cant for the life remember if its a 16 or 17 inch thats fitted on the car (alloys) - but id wager for 16, as the wheels didnt look the nicest.

    Thanks for replying and helping

i dont mind ordering online if needed either, or getting one at a scrappie (making sure they have one - i dont have a lot of time to go visiting them all) - and the word is = cheap.

I thought getting a spare tyre was going to be easy. actually its not. im surprised its hard to find a spare tyre for this.

Does anyone know where i could get a spacesaver wheel only? the tyres on my car are style 134, 225/55/R16.

I have the spacesaver kit, (tools), im just missing the wheel.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction. it does not have to be new, just to quickly use as a new if i get a flat (which i did yesterday at 8am, pulled into a tyre place and managed to get that repaired at 9am when they opened. this has made me need a spare tyre. And it has to be a spacesaver as the boot doesnt have space for a full tyre.

    Thanks for helping

They are very very difficult to pick up 2nd hand. You might get lucky and find one on donedeal, one pops every few months.
Its €300 for the complete kit.

A can or 2 of tyre weld and 12V compressor would be a better option IMO.

Try ebay for it. If its a space saver you want, you wont be concerned about what size rims you currently have on the car. All you need is a space saver to fit e60.

I have a spacesaver for an E46 in the shed here. I'm 99% certain it's the same fit for an E60. I was lucky enough to have room for a full size spare in my boot and picked up a 5th alloy to match the other 4 off Ebay.

What sort of money is the space saver worth 2nd hand? As far as I know it's never been used.

Afaik the 3 Series and 5 Series have different wheel fitments.

Take a trip around the scrapyards OP, and ring Traynors in Armagh. If they don't have it nobody will.

yeah, i tried autohaus and they had none. ill give traynors a shout.

barring that, tyre welds + 12v compressor its going to be. (need to see how much this all is).

It seems they have different offsets alright, though the PCD and bore size are the same. Is the offset really going to be a concern on something as narrow as a spacesaver though? Genuinely curious.

Offset determines how close/far away the wheel is to the car. The wheel might rub off the caliper or some suspension components if using the wrong offset

by the way, doesnt that tyre weld stuff destroy the tyre, hence needing a whole new tyre once you've used it?

spacesaver is preferable. the problem with the tyre weld is it seals the puncture (temporarily). you then take it to a garage to have it repaired and they cant find the puncture(because there isnt one anymore. which leaves you with the option to buy a new tyre or drive around on a time bomb.
It also wont fix sidewall damage as central fugal force pushes the weld to the outside.
It also knocks the balance out giving you a vibration.
neither will it fix a larger puncture. Its more trouble than its worth really.
On the upside its great for ride on mower wheels... not much good to you though:)

Are you 100% sure it doesnt have RFTs? You might not need any of these things

You could always keep a look out for a full size alloy wheel if you don't mind keeping it in the boot. They often pop up on done deal in singles or pairs. As it would only be used as a spare the condition should not be that important as long as it ain't got any cracks or buckled.

    Thanks

Traynor's have none - bah. the only scrappies having bmws on partfinder is Autohaus.

I tried a full size steel wheel - its way too large, and would take up nearly most of the boot at that point.

will have to be a spacesaver - will keep an eye out for them.

Does it have to be a 16" spacesaver (As my wheels are 225/55/16) or would a 17" fit?

    Thanks for helping out

The whole idea of a spacesaver is that it is smalller and narrower than the standard wheels ton conserve space. A 17" space saver may have a similar circumfrance to your standard 16" wheel size. You would really need them next to each other to compare though.

right. what ill do is ill pop into murphy and gunn and ask them. i do still have the original wheels that came with the car (which are on them now - not the tyres!!)

therefore ill have a better idea what to keep an eye out for.
