Hey just wondering if anyone can recommend a good place to get eyebrows shaped that's not too expensive ? (threaded preferably but I'm not picky ! )

Also does anyone know a good way of keeping eyebrows in place ?!
I've tried hairspray and hair gel/wax but neither seem to really work :(

I get mine threaded at Ultimate Hair Design in the GPO Arcade, off Henry Street. Last time I was there she charged me €10.

You should be able to pick up a brow setting gel in Boots, have a look around the brands there. It's like clear mascara.

Sandy's Secrets in Maynooth is really good imo! (It's in the bit of Manor Mills just before the outside car park entrance/opposite the boys school). I actually really like Essence Lash & Brow mascara for keeping eyebrows in check. Works well and cheap too.

The Body Shop Grafton St have amazing girls who thread your brows and it's only €12, I love it there!

Just got my eyebrows done in body shop..been before and did an ok job but usually broke out after a day. However I think my skin is uber sensitive as have been threaded in a good few other places and pretty much broke out after these too. Today however I am NOT happy. I asked the last to tidy them and not make too narrow. I don't think she understood however and just smiled. She then proceeded to thread without cleaning the area first (I had makeup on) and has left me with a very rounded, very narrow shape with one quite obviously skinnier than other. the eyebrow pencil will be getting an outing over the next few weeks! The area also feels v sensitive right now (a few hours later) so I'm nearly certain there will be a breakout tomorrow. I think she broke a bit if skin too as teeny drop of blood in few parts :(

I get mine done in Millies they have a salon in Kildare and one in Sallins.

I got the HD brows last time which is more expensive than the regular shape and tint but they are brill at both.

I went there before and they ruined my eyebrows. Started going to LA/CREATIVE beside the westbury after and they fixed them perfectly. Now i would never go anywhere else.

My best friend swears by Neelu in Arnotts, pricey enough at €18 though!

I went to the Body Shop in April and the lady butchered my left brow. Like your experience I don't think she understood what I was saying when I said I wanted them kept as thick as possible etc and just nodded at me and smiled and told me to relax.
She began threading for ages and then she said that she had to tweeze a few hairs- I got such a shock when I saw my left eyebrow-there was a hole in it where she had tweezed!! and my right brow was a complete mess,no shape atal.

She immediately started apologising (knowing how bad they were) and then said she'll try and fix it and went to tweeze some more but I wouldn't let her. She had to phone a colleague to come in and "fix" my brows-the only thing her colleague could do was to thread further up (above the hole) and I was left with 2 vv.skinny brows. I was v.upset. I stupidly paid for the tint and another woman working in the Body Shop just said "oh it'll be grand once you put a pencil through it a few times" !!!!
I was most upset because I can't usually afford to get my brows done often so it was a wee treat for myself and it was ruined :(

Today was the first day I did anything with them since as I needed them to grow. I'm just back from Elysian brows where I received an excellent service and the lady talked me through how she was going to get the shape back into the brows and told me it'll probably take another 6 months! Elysian were more expensive but I wanted/needed to go somewhere relaible and I'm happy with the results!:)

Really bad idea skimping on your eyebrows, as they shape your whole face. After a few bad haircuts and eyebrow shapes I have learned my lesson. I now go to Shavata in Harvey Nichols in Dundrum. If you ask for Anjana you won't be left disappointed, she's a miracle worker! It's expensive at €20, but well worth it in my opinion. You get your 5th eyebrow shape free and I am not kidding, she does a tremendous job!!! :)

Has anyone been to the Brow Artist? I've been following them on facebook and I see today that they are now taking names for a new clients waiting list. Some of the before and after pictures look great that they put up.

I usually go to Elysian Brows but they don't do the 18month treatment I noticed that the Brow Artist does.

I've been a good few times now. Going again in October! It's €45 for the 3-5 week brow treatment, and €650 I think for the 18-24 months brows. For me it's worth it. I have really uneven brows and these ladies sort them right out! Have had them threaded, waxed, plucked and tinted at various places but never with results like this.

    Excuse the mutt :D

Where is the brow artist located? Never heard of it. I might save up and give it a try!

They're based in Ranelagh now. You need to sign up to the waiting list first, they're only starting to take new clients now. Over the summer until now they were only taking bookings for existing clients. It was crazy. I'd booked in May for an August appointment  Thankfully they're only opening up bookings a month in advance, and have three more Brow Artists on the team!

    That I do!

First is full on grown out
Second is after €10 threading - neat but the shape not good for me
Third is after my first trip to the Brow Artist

I found the benefit brow bar in house of Fraser in dundrum excellent for putting a great shape into my eyebrows. I can't remember the lady's name but she was older.

Elysian brows are pretty impressive too if a tad expensive.

To keep my eyebrows in place, I find clear mascara to be excellent

Definitely considering changing now. The 18-24 month treatment sounds brilliant.

I'd love to get my brows done properly but I'm just not convinced I have enough hair left to make it worth my while. I went from full-on Eugene Levy monobrow as a child, to overplucking as a teen, so they're in fairly rag order at the moment. Anyone know if any of the recommended places do a consultation first? I know you've to let them grow in before your first session and whatnot, but to be honest with you, other than the odd straggler, not that much grows anymore!

This is them au natural. Thank god for powder pencils, that's all I can say...

Unfortunately for me my brows aren't as neat naturally, and are very over plucked.
I was thinking about growing them out for as long as I can manage and going to the brow Boutique in jervis for hd brows, anyone been?

I was also contemplating buying growth gel stuff to speed up the process, do they work or is it all a big scam?

EDIT: I can't seem to add a picture on my phone, but here are my natural and then filled in brows. Each Hair is very long but as with last poster after years of over plucking not much grows in the places I need it :(

PG - used to be obsessed with HD brows however, it's overpriced and really just a gimmick.

Leave your eyebrows alone for a while ( my friend recently grew hers out for 8 months coming up to her wedding), don't bother with growth enhancing gel. You'd be surprised when you think you won't get much growth. Tint them before you get them shaped, that way you'll pick up any tiny little blonde hairs that would be unseen before. And then go get them threaded. I would recommend going to a really good threader who you trust not to take too much off the shape. I did my friends for her, so I will try show you before and after photos and the difference 8 months of " not growing" made.

    Edit: dxgsh0.jpg

The difference time tinting and threading (and a little brown eyeshadow) made.

I'm not sure how the consultations work with the Brow Artist for the semi-perm brows (18-24 months). They do brows for ladies with alopecia or who have lost their hair through medical treatment, so your slightly sparse ends wouldn't be a challenge for them at all!

For my own (3-4 week treatment) I just didn't go near them for about 6 weeks. They were all over the place!

This is funny, I was talking about this at the weekend! I've never done anything to my eyebrows (blondey brown hair, but really fair eyelashes and brows), but I kinda want to now after trying eyeshadow and brow mascara and seeing how different they can make my face look.

Some horror stories here though of gaps and waiting months or years for it to grow out! Would ye recommend tinting and then threading? Or threading and using makeup to darken them? Don't want to go too dramatic at first, because trying it out at the weekend looked too dark for my face.

    Brow boutique jervis shopping centre
I have been going there for the 8 months have loved the results I went again on the 24th dec and they had put a 3rd chair in and silly me let the new girl do my eyebrows and she ruined them they are now back to what they looked like eight months ago the other two girls that work there are amazing so friendly and helpful this girl didn't even talk time once and when complained about it she offered to put more tint in sure what would be the point just wanted to warn other people

Ah thats a shame, I use the brow boutique too & find them great. I've been going about 12 months and my brows have gotten a great shape. I know its expensive for HD but the tint really lasts, I normally get about 6 weeks before I have to use a pencil.

I emailed them a couple of months ago but no reply. :( And the lady I go to in Dundrum only works the weekends. I got my eyebrows done in Dundrum recently by another lady and she totally butchered them She was so rude to me when I told her I wasn't happy. If anyone is going to Harvey nicks in Dundrum ask for Anjana, don't let anyone else do your eyebrows.

I have really fair brows like you!

I get them tinted and tweezed. There is no point in waxing mine as I have very little hair anyway. I only ever got them shaped at all for the first time 2 years ago :o And I'm 24.

Only problem is tint only lasts for about a week and a half when you have blonde hair, because too much can't be put on or else it'll be too dark. I keep meaning to buy my own tint to do it myself!

I still use an eyebrow pencil almost every day. Tried threading a few weeks ago and was extremely painful and uncomfortable, I'd say the lady hadn't a clue what she was doing. Never again!

Looked like this before...no shape really. But it didn't matter because you couldn't really see them anyway! They just stand out in that black and white photo..

They look like this now. More visible anyway :P

Liz explained it that HD brows is I think seven steps, waxing, tinting, threading, plucking, defining, etc etc.

The Brow Artist(s) are very very anti-waxing.

In any of my appointments Liz tinted, threaded, plucked the awkward strays and that was me done. Oh and she filled them in with brow powder.

They don't do HD brows but I've had my brows waxed and tinted a few times in the new benefit boutique on South William st and they are fab. I've always struggled to find the right colour for my brows and have always been a bit afraid of over doing it but the tint they give me is perfect, I get loads of compliments on them. And the staff are lovely

I used to get my eyebrows waxed all the time but since I started getting them threaded I don't think I could ever go back to waxing.

My mam is an avid eyebrow waxer, she can't stand threading. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

I get mine threaded. A woman (Maz) in mayo does them wouldn't go to anyone else now again after her. €10 for normal threading and then a bit pricer for tinting etc. know this post about Dublin but incase anyone down the country was wondering! Last around 3 weeks but suppose that depends on now quick your hair grows!

I go to a lady in Lucan who does it from her own house. I get my eyebrows, upper lip and chin (sometimes) threaded and the brows tinted for €24.00
She is very good and I am happy with her.
I tried the Body Shop before - couldn't be paid enough to go back there again. Used to go to Debenhams but they got stupidly expensive. Mandala Spa is also good but its a trip into town and more expensive than I currently pay.

Some of my hairs grow out instead of over! I use Benefits Brow Zings to fill them in but the wax doesn't help at all - any advice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Design78

I used to have a few hairs in my brows that grew straight up as opposed to over, i used a strong hairspray - sprayed onto a brow comb. Over time I've trained them into the right direction.

I trim my eyebrows and it makes all the difference. I started doing this after I got them threaded for the first time and the therapist trimmed them too. I find it keeps them so much neater and they look far better. It's a bit daunting at first, but there are some great tutorials on youtube for doing it. All you need is a brow wand and a nail scissors.

(This video uses an eyebrow scissors, but I just use a regular nail scissors!)
