    Hey

When I immigrated from Scotland I brought my Fiat 500 with me. I have got it registered (VRT exempt) taxed and Insured, however its an 08 plate so will have to be NCT'd soon (It has a UK MOT until April).

Apparently it will get summoned, how long will this take?

    Thanks

    Ewan

If you have the Irish registration you can go on to the NCT website www.ncts.ie & book a test yourself, you'll need the date of first registration to do it online. Alternatively give them a call. They may or may not send you a notice, that can be hit & miss. The thing is if the car is 4 years or older (which yours is) then you technically have to have an NCT to use it on a public road. Ow ever it is not as enforced as the MOT is in UK.
I would advise calling the NCTs if there is no date available in the next month or so, you might get a cancellation date.

Your NCT is a year overdue.

If you met a Gard in a bad mood, you could get 5 points AND a MANDATORY court summons for no NCT!!

Ring the NCT tomorrow for the earliest test. You will get a letter from the NCT confirming the booking, keep this letter with you to give to a Gard if stopped.

Also, the MOT means nothing here to the authorities

I did it online, the earliest test date is not till the 11th at either Northpoint. I am confused about the contradictory information I was given. The paperwork for the VRT says that I will be "summoned" by writing for it, but others say I have to do it ASAP (And I had to show the MOT to the VRT lot to get it registered).

Also considering I had to display the plates within 3 days (or get done by the garda) and there was no chance of getting a NCT test in that timescale (Considering it takes 72 hours for my reg to appear on the booking system)

Anyway I have the conformation, at least its not like the UK where its done by garages who want to rip you off with MOTs at least its going to be independent.

Also its not a year over due, its due now, the car was never in Ireland a year ago, its only got Irish plates on Monday. Its only 08-D-xxxxx because they do it from the cars manufacture date, not its registration date

If the car is now on Irish plates, the VRT process is complete.

The NCT centers are tasked with both VRT valuations and car testing. They are not linked together. As you are VRT excempt, you will not need to visit the NCT centre for a VRT valuation.

As the car is just newly registered, keep the receipt from the tax office to show that its recently re-registered and a print-out of the booking to present to any Gard if stopped.

You have done everything you could have done, sit back and wait for the test.

I thought it was from the first registration date?

Not sure, as they are both 08. It asked for both on the declaration form

NCT is due on the anniversary of the cars first ever registration.

If it was registered April 08 in UK, registered in Ireland Dec 12, NCT will always be in April when its 4,6,8,10,11,12,13,14...... years old
