Knee injury, possibly medial ligament

I've picked up a knock on my knee. From the image below, it appears to be my medial ligament.

My level of sport generally is just indoor soccer and astro soccer. I picked up the injury in the middle of December while out for a run. I rested it for 2 weeks, went out for a jog and still felt a twinge. I rested it all of last month but went for a jog yesterday evening and it still does not feel right.

As ye probably gather from this, I'm not the best at heading to a doctor when I pick up a knock. I don't really get injured really, so stubbornly thought I'd shake it off with some rest.

For a possible problem with my medial ligament, am I better off going to a doctor or a physio?

Not allowed give any medical opinions but 100% go to a physio over a doctor.

This. A doctor will just send you to a physio. Or worse, be convinced that there is nothing wrong with your knee, send you for an x-ray, tell you there is nothing wrong on the x-ray and then tell you to wear a knee brace. All while charging you 50 squid.

Go to a physio as soon as possible, catch it early and the recovery will be easier

Thanks, seems very likely due to pain at the side to back of knee.

I run and get injured more than I should [generally 99% of time my own fault] - the only thing I would say is dont look up injuries in the internet, you can seriously find everything from "ah your fine, man up" to "that will end your career and it may have to come off" - its a nightmare, and if your preparing for a big race or event it puts all sorts of bad sh1t in your head.

Go to an expert and get advice - you really cant put a price on a the value of a good physio [where I define good as not only medical expertise, but also someone who knows your sport]

+1 on getting it looked at professionally as there is no point in looking up online because you dont know what your looking for. Pain is just a message to the brain as a form of protection, the cause most often does not stem from the area pain is referred to

For starters Runners knee is a lateral pain compared to your description of a medial one (not diagnosing just proving a point) also the picture is from an anatomical position which means you are looking head on so can cause confusion in where the pain is actually coming from unless you are experienced (this is actually a left leg looking face on)

You wouldnt mess around with the engine of your car if you dont know what you are doing so why risk it with your body?

Plenty of good people you can go see in the area

Also if you are not happy with a physio, get a 2nd opinion from another.
