I'm hoping to visit a friend in Shanghai in the next few weeks. Looking online I can fly with Etiad for €650 with a stopover in Abu Dhabi. Amazingly a flight to Abu Dabi uis pretty much the same price as going to Shanghai. Not sure why. Anyway I have family near there (Dubai) so I was hoping I could spend a few days there as well - but I recall last time I tried to extend my stop they would not let me.

Does anyone know a good way to do this? If I want to go Dublin -> Dubai -> Shanghai and then back to Dublin - what's a good way to get a good price on this, or is it just a case of booking individual flights? If so I'd say it would be prohibitively expensive.

    Any tips for me anyone?
    Thanks

if it has an option for multi-trip / multiple flights on the website you could try doing that and see what price comes out.

for example on the Ethiad page there is a stopover option...

If you want cheaper heres an option:

    Ryanair
    Dublin T1 » Warsaw Modlin
    24-2-2013 17:05

    Warsaw Modlin » Dublin T1
    20-3-2013 10:50

86.99 EUR with 15kg Checkin Bag (Around 90 euro with CC fee)

    Emirates from Warsaw to Shanghai
    emirates.jpg

Works out at around 350 euros.

So all in around 440 euros and Emirates are an excellent airline to boot.

You have a day either side in Warsaw incase of any delays etc.

I'm merely giving the OP options, he can search around for flights himself and see if any include stopovers.

You can make an overnight stay as cheap as you want, couchsurfing is a really good option and pretty much free, plus you get to meet new people.

    Its a 260 euro difference.

Thanks guys. I tried that Ethiad site but can't make head not tail of it. It has me taking buses in Manchester and then the fare is 2k. I must be doing something wrong.

Are there any other multi-search websites that can do it for me? I'm fairly flexible with dates - and I can even fly to Abu Dhabi as its only an hour away from Dubai. I tried a few but its either in the thousands or the stopovers are 14 hours etc.

did you not look at the example that I showed you.... pick Abu Dhabi as the hub for the flight as flights will be cheaper through there 'cos Ethiad are an Abu Dhabi airline.... . site is simple to use - play around with it with diff dates. we're not personal travel agents here....

On Etihad or Emirates, have you clicked on the "multiple cities/stopovers" options? You do not need to book expensive, one way flights.

For example, on the Emirates website if you do that, fill in the dates (for my sample I chose to go out on the 6th of March, coming from Shanghai to Dubai on 14th, leaving Dubai for Dublin on the 17th) it will price you the journey including the stopover. For those dates it was less than €600.

Thanks lads this is a great help. I'm looking to travel pretty soon which is probably why I can make them match. Looking to leave around the 12th, get to Shanghai around the 18th, and home by the 26th - but I have a few days flex in that.

Someone else told me about this site: www.cheapoair.com - on there I can get Dublin-Dubai-Shangai-Dublin, on 13th, 19th, 27th for €650 - this would be amazing. Thing is its €950 on the Emerites website - so I'm not sure if I can believe it. There is a few bad reviews of them online. I'll call them in the morning and see what I can do.
