Well from the title im 18 and unfit . Broke my hip over the summer and well could do very little for 3/4 months so lost any momentum i had.Now that im right again and feel good enough to run

Im lacking motivation but really want to get fit im not over weight just want to get fit and would love to compete in some races over the next few months as i progress.

Just wanted some advice on what is the best thing to do join a local running club or go it alone with some training programs . Never been in a running club so not sure if they are all about short distance and sprinting or what

Any way all input is appreciated thanks

Obviously if you broke your hip you will have to start over very slowly with lots of rest days. The couch to 5k programme that is pretty much everywhere is a good place to start. Avoid the temptation to go heavy on the workload even if you feel great the first couple of weeks; it is better to have the 2,1 approach. 2 steps forward and 1 back so up your workoad slowly. At the moment there is many 5k, 4 mile, 5 mile, 10k races and also the BHAA which has distances under 10k if you are close to Dublin or Cork. I would also do core stuff like situps, pressups and if you have some weights then clean+press, squats and deadlifts. No need to join a club unless you really want to...;)

No harm in joining a club either - people to run with, a bit more motivation for putting on the gear and getting out. Where are you based OP?

Ya thanks for the replys guys.

I seen the couch to 5k program looks pretty reasonable and not too demanding

I'm based in Tipperary but go to college in ul
