Just found this fascinating article about men who explain things to women

We don't mean to be patronising when we do it.

That means condescending by the way...

Just found this fascinating article about men who explain things to women:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rebecca-solnit/men-explain-things-to-me-_b_1811096.html

Without reading it, this article is going to be about how when having a conversation and casually explaining something the person you're talking to doesn't seem to know about yet, if the person doing the explaining happens to be male and the other person happens to be female it's an obvious sign of the pervasive patriarchy and means that the guy doing the explaining is in fact a chauvanistic douche, even if he himself was only trying to be friendly and helpful.
Oh and of course if the genders are reversed it's clearly because lads are thick and need everything spelled out for them

    That the general gist?

I hate this crap. Oh look at us poor women, men explain things to us...boohoo.

I should probably read the article, or one of you big strong intelligent men could explain it to me ;)

I read the article and it is clear the author has an inferiority complex. Take this snippet from the article
He kept us waiting while the other guests drifted out into the summer night, and then sat us down at his authentically grainy wood table and said to me, "So? I hear you've written a couple of books."

    I replied, "Several, actually."

He said, in the way you encourage your friend's seven-year-old to describe flute practice, "And what are they about?"

Now, if I met an author, regardless of the gender, the first question would be "What are the books about?". How is that considered the same as talking to seven year old? Rubbish article

But if I was to explain something to someone, I can only ever do it as a man. Are we not meant to do that?

Congratulations on finding an article. Check out Google. You'll find all sorts of articles using that, too!
