Im trying to fix an emachines laptop for a friend, its windows 7 with a broadcom wireless adaptor. It will only connect to the router if it is in the same room. I have tried this with 3 different routers with the same results.
If i move into another room the signal strength will still be 4 out of 5 bars which should be fine but it will not connect!
I have done a windows update and checked the broadcom driver but it says its up to date. Any suggestions what i should try next?
    Thanks!

Im not sure but maybe change the channel of your router as the other room maybe picking up a neighbours router with same channel.

I had a similar prob, my laptop wouldn't pick up a signal in the kitchen, googled solutions and got this:

What is the SSID name, and Security protocol (WPA2-PSK eg) being used?

Laptops have WiFi antennae around the LCD screen with cables ruining to the wireless card underneath. Whenever I have seen this issue before it was disconnected or severd cables meaning the card has no antennae and only picked up signals beside it.
