Upgrading HDD on Laptop - Acer 5920

The laptop still has the pitiful HDD it came with, a whole 140ish GB! So the plan is to upgrade it as I can't fork out for a new laptop at the moment, and space is the only issue I am having (just a browsing and watching machine, nothing fancy!)

I know the laptop takes a 2.5" SATA and I am confident in opening her up (had to replace the DC Jack last year, so I found my way around :)

My question to you guys is, can I get any size? Looking to get a TB, I'm pretty sure there are no limitations, but just want to confirm!

Also I am thinking of scraping the CD/DVD drive (never use it) and getting a OBHD caddy and using the 140GB from the laptop as a second drive, is there any limitations in regards to this way of adding a second drive... I presume this would fit

I'm doing a lot of doubting and would just love for someone to tell me if I am going in the right direction.... Thanks in advance lads :D
