Mystery parking ticket

Family member got a parking ticket for parking on a grass verge in the post- for somewhere in ballymun.
He says wasnt him and hes no idea why he got it...
Hes the only driver of that car and has no reason to go there...

Garda we rang said the fine was entered by a Garda rather than a traffic warden - so they have no photo of the other car :(
and to just to pay it and be done with it- is this normal?

It seems unfair he has to pay for a data entry mistake? It wasnt his car and im sure a photo would easily show had they taken one. Is there any way to get this mistaken fine corrected does anyone know?

    Thanks-

Contact the Garda who issued the ticket, if he doesn't accept that he made a mistake then you'll have to wait for the summons, go to court and swear that it couldn't have been your car. The judge will in all probability dismiss the case because without a photo and no note taken at the time of the make model and colour of the car, the Garda won't be able to convince the judge that he didn't make a mistake so you/your friend should get the benefit of the doubt.

If you get no satisfaction talking to the Garda and there's any fear that you won't be able to attend the court, just pay the fine. It's not worth briefing a solicitor and the fine imposed by the judge when you don't turn up is usually double the ticket fine.

Where was the car on the day?

I'd be more worried about there being a cloned car with the OPs family reg driving around, if there is it will more than likely be the same make, model and colour.

If they pay this fine would that create a legal difficulty if more arrive? They need to find some proof that the car couldn't have been in Ballymun on the day the ticket was issued if they are going to court.

Thanks for the responses - It would have been in the driveway in Raheny all day on that day - I cannot see any way of proving that though...

We tried to contact the Guard - but were told it wasn't possible as he could be in and out of the station at any time...
We sent off a letter this morning. He'd really not rather have the worry of a court summons in maybe 6 months time.

can you get penalty points for a parking ticket if the case goes against him?

You could send a letter to the Superintendent explaining the situation and asking for the ticket to be cancelled.

Probably not much of a chance of that happening since the whole penalty point fiasco though.

No penalty points for parking offences. Just monetary penalties.
