Root canal to Crowns?

    Hi there,

I had a root canal done on one of my top middle incisors last April. You can kind of see the white filling stuff through the front tooth and also it's not the same colour as the tooth beside it anymore. The dentist did tell me at the time that I may need to think about getting a crown in the future, but I'm a student and the root canal pretty much cleaned me out at the time.

I'm just wondering what the cost of getting a crown would be, and would it be better to get both front teeth crowned so that they're matching? When you're getting front teeth crowned, is it possible to have the size of them reduced? The two front teeth are just a little bit too long and I've always wanted them to be more in line with the others.

On a side note, I'm moving to the Czech Republic on an erasmus semester on Saturday and will be there until June. I know it could be dodgy getting any work done over there, but I'm contemplating at least going into the University dentist to have an assessment done.

dentist i go to has a all porcelain crown advertised starting from 790 which is usually done for front teeth.
Im sure a dentist would be able to file down any teeth you want filed.

You dont have to get a crown straight after root canal treatment

Well I think she meant for me to get it done in the future, since the tooth is a different colour now to the other front tooth beside it. In terms of aesthetics, is it better to get the 2 front teeth crowned since they're beside each other? Would only getting one crowned make the tooth stand out more if it wasn't a good job?

I'm kind of thinking now that I'd nearly be as well to wait and get the 6 top teeth crowned together so they'd all be matching. Anybody out there with any personal experience of getting front teeth crowned?

Broke one of my central incisors last year through a fall. Had root canal done and got a porcelain crown, cost €1100 or €1200 in total as far as I can remember. Had 50% back through health insurance so got the max I could claim back which I think was €500. Have to say you do not notice the difference between the crown and my real tooth. No need at all to involve other perfectly healthy teeth your dentist will do the matching up to make them look perfect. Also if its a temporary crown you've had fitted for the moment to fill the gap, they always look crap compared to the porcelain crown.
