Hi folks, im a long time reader and have got alot of useful info. over the years on here, im just looking for a bit of information for my club as we are thinking to do the ring of kerry this year for the first time. ive been looking at hotels so far but places seem scarce and quite expensive. so where would you recommend for 10-20 cyclists to stay in kerry for a decent price? thanks for any help

Hi, thanks for reply, is there anyone who may have gone as a group to do the ring of kerry and can reccommend a few good self catering houses for us to stay?
A few websites or contact numbers would be great, also is there many people who cycle to kerry for this cycle or is there a bus or something that is organised from Co. Louth area?

You could try here.... was impressed with their facilities recently when we used it as a base for a club spin and they laid on soup and sambos.

so my turn to do them a good deed:

    Hey lads,

If anyone is interested I am opening a hostel just outside of Killarney this year and would love your business if ye are interested.

It is 8 km on the Ring of Kerry route so ye can start directly from the hostel on the morning of the cycle.
I did it last year and will hopefully do it the week before this year as have a wedding on the day.

I have the following room types
4 Bed Mixed Dorm with En-Suite
3 Bed Mixed Dorm with Private Bathroom
    Twin En-Suite
    Double En-Suite
    Single En-Suite

Prices start at 17 euro for the 4 Bed Mixed Dorm.

Included in the price is a light breakfast.

Storage area for bikes and laundrey area as well.

Here is the hostel websitehttp://www.dunloeviewhostel.ie.You can PM me if you want more info or for a group booking.

    Regards

    John

    Mr McNamara.

If you are looking for club accommodation for the ring of Kerry then I would recommend you consider Kenmare.

There is a large range of accommodation for all budgets.

Plenty of self catering - Check out Daft rentals (short term) or rent an Irish holiday cottage.

For non self catering I would recommend the followinG
Brook Lane - at the bottom of Molls Gap. Owner is a keen cyclist and they welcome cyclists. Stunning hotel with great food and great service.

Next door to Brook Lane hotel is a fantastic b&b - The Rose Garden. Run by a very friendly couple of pastry chefs from France. Breakfast is stunning. Easily the best pain au chocolat that I have had anywhere - including France.
In Kenmare town is The Lansdowne Hotel. Lively spot with a good bar. This place is very accustomed to dealing with cyclists. They have been the Kenmare base for the Tour de Munster for many years now.

Kenmare has some great bars and restaurants. Also the day after the Ring the club has a choic of cycles. Head north for Gap of Dunloe, Glencar Valley or head south for the Ring of Beara.

Hundreds of cyclists start in Kenmare every year from about 6am in the morning. You also get Molls Gap out of the way early in the day.

(I am biased - I live in Kenmare).
