Does anyone still have it ?? Sorry if this has been done before. Does anyone still have it ? When did you get broadband? Does anyone you know still have dial up? In hindsight, I don't know how I ever did without broadband. I got mine in 2006, but now most modern phones, laptops, iPads and iPhones are all obsolete (pretty much) without WiFi.

No, but my Mobile Broadband occasionaly feels like it.

Some parts of the country are to far from their local exchange, or line not suitable, and no 3g. Dial up might be all there is.

Yep, my brother has dial-up as where he lives there is very very poor mobile reception, and no/poor coverage for 3G mobile broadband.

A colleague of mine still has it.
Hes a tight bastard anyway ,no satellite either despite the protests of his family.

If he had his way he"d probably still have an 088 mobile.
I wouldnt mind but he won 150 grand on the prize bonds.

Tell him to check out if he's covered under the National Broadband scheme. Its a government contract given to 3, where they are obliged to get broadband to him somehow if he's not covered already by any other service provider.

I got sattelite broadband in my house in Kerry through this scheme for €20 a month. Its not super fast, but it's ok.

Dial-up is the only option at our local exchange.

Anyone on here using 3G modems - me included.
You are actually dialling a fixed number each time to setup the call, it's a data call but its the same call.
So apart from the sound of "weeee---waaaahhhhhh-wweeeeee" it's not a whole lot different.

The best thing about having broadband is being able to go to sites like this for no reason http://heyyeyaaeyaaaeyaeyaa.com/ :D

Got Eircom broadband in 05 or 06 I'd say, switched to UPC when Eircom decided to charge for every mb we went over the download limit a few years back after they 'upgraded' us and the bills were getting ridiculous.UPC is half the price and 8x the eircom speed, and have never heard them complainig about us going over any limit.

Going to set that as the home page of all the collage PCs tomorrow. :D

My old man used to hide the lead that would go from the modem to the phone port. I used to run up crazy bills and spend the entire day looking for it, been addicted to the internet ever since. :( Got broadband around 2004 I think

It sounded like you were connecting to something. I know that you were, but to actually hear the sound, makes it. You were entering The Web!!!

In a smilar way, I think we should bring back hand-cranks to start our cars. There would be a sense of achievement each time you cranked one up

Not to mention a few new grey hairs from the time waiting.

Mate of mine only got it in 2010 or so, and that's in Wicklow near Dublin border. Think an aunt of mine in Dublin is still on dial-up. I shudder at the thought. Being made to wait until after 6pm so that it'd be at off-peak rates (unless this was a terrific hoax by my parents, in which case fair deuce), trying to get hourlong games of Age of Empires 2 done before some gombeen rang the house, I remember trying to download a ropey file once and Windows said 'Estimated time left: Forever:'

And the worst, trying in vain to load a Geocities site with animated GIFs and other moving parts up the arse. Do you have frames enabled?

Ah Yes. Dial Up. :) Brings back memories of the internet of the 90's...Napster, Netscape, crappy looking home made Geocities websites and this. :D
