Need motivation/inspiration to get active/fit

So I have been thinking about getting back running/getting fit in general for an age but I just cannot seem to find the motivation to do so. I am sick of going around in this circle… hating how I look/feel - planning to do something about it - doing the opposite which is nothing… - feeling like crap.. doing nothing etc.

Do anyone know of a book or something that I could read that would inspire me? Motivate me to move? Something to help change my stationary state of mind?

Would hating the way you look and feel not motivate you?

The best motivation is motivation from within, rather than a book or video.

If you really want to do something you'll do it.

I could provide a few pages of insults if you think that might help?

It's very rare i ever give away any personal info, but let me reassure you, i spent most of my teen's and early 20's wishing i was thin like other guys, when i hit 25 i soon realised I was heading for my 30's fast, and i'd lived a pretty boring existence, that was the moment i said enough was enough .. I dropped 5 stone, no book or movie will make you do it, only you can !

Make the decision, and make the change

thanks for that - i will check it out..

I'm about 54kg - 5ft 3".. don't really need to loose wt - I just wanna get fit and feel great. Tone up in a few places. I just feel too lazy to do anything about it. I do wanna get off my ass but obviously not enough. I wanna want to!!! The problem is mentally - i need a stronger frame of mind.

As mentioned in previous posts.. does how you are feeling not motivate you?

Think of it this way.. 40-60 mins of exercise is approx 4% of your day.. not a lot right?

Do you really wanna look back in weeks, months, years to come and think "ah I should of started back then"

In the time you are planning on using to read a book you could be starting to actually do something about it.... like exercise

Write up a POA. Write on it - what days you will exercise, what time you will exercise at, and how long you will exercise for - Stick to it!!
tick off each day that you complete your planned exercise and time, you can look back on this in weeks, months and see how much you have achieved, this will motivated you to keep going!

IMO those who actually stick to health and exercise it becomes apart of their day to day life, and it's not looked upon as an effort to do it or a chore.

    Best of luck

Make exercise part of your routine. You don't make a decision every day as to whether you work/study/eat - you just decide what you do. Make it the same for exercise. Also, if you haven't already think more broadly about how to exercise. It doesn't have to involve a gym. If you like dancing/walking/horse riding or you've always thought you'd like to give something a go then do it. If you're really not interested in anything that involves physical exercise incorporate walking in to your daily commute, always take the stairs. Find ways to make your daily life more active.

There's a book called 'Run, Fat Bitch, Run". Its got great reviews and a friend of mine tried it and is now running half marathons. Try that, but remember its like giving up cigarettes - nothing will make you do it, unless you really want to do it yourself. One step at at a time. Try the C25K programme. It eases you into running and you will be up and at it, in no time.

Okay, my two cents. Stop thinking about it and just do it. Take some action, it's the first step to everything. Do something.

Go right down to your nearest gym tomorrow and buy a year's membership. Get an instructor to show you around and how the machines work and get a plan made out if you want. It may be tough to get up and go the first few times, but it will become a routine and you will probably come to enjoy going to the gym.

I've only been a member a few days and I absolutely love it <3

Sporina, I was exactly the same. I have sort of artificially motivated myself by signing up for an event in May with a few friends.

Having a specific goal has helped me hugely. It's a bit like when you have some exams coming up - you just have to do the work. The friends aspect is also motivating in that I don't want to be the only muppet who can't cut it on the day!

The best thing to do is just do something, just get started. Even if you just do one thing today and build it from there. It could be a walk or a run or even just having a walk around the gym to familiarise yourself with the equipment so that you're more confident and prepared for the next day. I struggle with motivation myself for other reasons, but I always find that just doing something is the main thing. Once you do you'll start to feel better about yourself and be motivated to do a bit more next time. If you don't do anything and berate yourself for it then you'll just get stuck in that cycle and feel like crap etc.

Just get started and take it from there.

I have found TV programmes like Embarrassing Bodies very inspirational; I am 2 stone lighter now than I was 11 months ago having given up Coca Cola a year ago I lost 1 stone with no other changes, having started dieting anf exercising in January I have lost another stone. I now am as light as when I was 16 and feel great; I still have more weight to lose to get to my optimal weight but it is a journey which keeps delivering. I fitted into an old jeans which I could not fit into for a few year recently. For me it has been a life changer so far and I have already booked 30,000kms of flights for the summer as I embark on yet another odyssey to South East Asia and I want to be able to trek through the jungles without being out of breath every 5mins like the last time I tried it.
